EdinburghAn exciting flexible opportunity has arisen as NHS Lothian is looking to appoint a new Forensic Physician to expand its existing forensic medical examination and police custody healthcare team. We are seeking an enthusiastic committed General Practitioner or Speciality Doctor with an MRCGP qualification and an interest in Forensic Medicine. This new position is very flexible and can be tailored to fit around current clinical commitments with variable amounts of sessions per month to be mutually agreed. Most shifts are out of hours but some day work may be available. All positions would suit experienced General Practitioners or a Speciality Doctor looking for fascinating part- time work.The role is varied and interesting with full on- the- job training given by NHS Lothian. The work is divided between custody healthcare & forensic medical examinations. We have an experienced autonomous team of nurse prescribers who manage patients in custody & coordinate and corroborate forensic examinations.Your role is to perform examinations and assessments of adults and children under the instruction of Police Scotland. This offers a diverse range of clinical presentations in an exciting & fluid environment.We are permitted a privileged insight into the inner workings of the police & criminal justice system with occasional opportunities to present our findings in court. The position is available in Lothian, Borders, Fife and Forth Valley with cross covers across all of the regions as required. Your own transport & driving license is essential.This unique opportunity has arisen as the reformation of Scottish police services coincides with a time when the role of the forensic medical examiner is quickly evolving & looking to gain full royal college status. Postgraduate examinations are currently available via the Faculty of Forensic and Legal Medicine (a sub faculty of the Royal College of Physicians) & offers good career development opportunities.In response to the Scottish Government Task Force for the Improvement of Services for Victims of Rape and Sexual Assault, this post is subject to a genuine occupational requirement under the Equality Act 2010.
