Our Information and Library Services Directorate delivers award winning IT services and support, library, academic and digital skills and learning enhancement to staff and students across the university. Our digital mission is to ensure everyone in our community is equipped to effectively use digital services, data and technology with confidence, efficiency and creativity in their learning, teaching, research and organisational support.
We are seeking an experienced ETL, BI and integrations developer to work within the Data and Analytics team, in the Enterprise Applications service.
Efficient, sustainable and resilient software solutions are critical to the University operating as a modern business and effective learning provider. Within that context, the role holder will be part of the team with responsibility for the delivery, methods of deployment and management of high-quality Business Intelligence and Integration solutions, to support the University’s business reporting and other systems used by staff, applicants and students. As well as assisting with relevant projects, using required functional and technical expertise, in a timely and cost-effective manner.
You will act as a source of knowledge and experience in the team; supporting, coaching and occasionally supervising team members as required. Supporting all day-to-day activities, to ensure the successful technical development and implementation of ETL, BI and integration solutions, for the University’s core business systems, including the student information systems, mobile and web-based systems, HR, Finance, and timetabling systems.
The post holder must always ensure that, consideration is given to the wider technical architecture and support of the University’s operational and regulatory requirements, as well as strategic objectives.
You will be involved in all phases of development, as well as maintenance of current systems, changes and system upgrades, using required functional and technical expertise in a timely and cost-effective manner.
The successful candidate will need to be able to demonstrate significant experience across the full BI and integration stack, including:
- dimensional data modelling and data warehousing;
- ETL design, build and maintenance using an enterprise grade ETL tool such as SAP Data Services or MS SSIS;
- Experience with enterprise grade reporting platforms (SAP Business Objects, SSRS and/or Power BI);
- SQL (Oracle PL/SQL, T-SQL);
- Data integrations using Web Services and RESTful APIs;
- Experience of working with cloud-based data platforms;
- Experience of working within a controlled environment and advanced knowledge of version control with Git and Gitflow.
In addition to the necessary technical skills, you will have proven experience of large-scale project management, involving supervision of work and proactive liaison with IT Support, Project Managers, Business/Systems Analysts and senior users as required. Hence, we are looking for a strong communicator, that is well organised and able to manage a wide and varied workload. The ability to logically and thoroughly document your work is vital, along with a keen interest in technology, and current trends in data and analytics development.
