As part of the project “Territorial planning and financial innovation to increase resilience to climate change in Mexico (SAbERES)” financed by the International Climate Initiative (IKI), the project coordinator for the Work Package (WP4) – Financing will be in charge of the component of access to financing and financial training for the participating producer organizations.   

Strategic Responsibilities:   

  • Development and implementation of the strategy for the provision of credit and other financial instruments of the SAbERES program.
  • Articulate the demand for financing (evaluated and presented projects) required by producer organizations to strengthen their production systems with a focus on ecosystem-based adaptation.
  • Collaborate in financial training services for producer organizations so that they can access available financing mechanisms.
  • Provide technical support to producer organizations for the development of a portfolio of sustainable production business models that integrate adaptation measures eligible under the financing mechanism.
  • Work hand in hand with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) in the implementation and monitoring of the project financing mechanism.
  • Systematization of business models for Impact Investors based on economic, environmental and social indicators.
  • Collect, process and analyse information on different financing mechanisms for ecosystem-based adaptation in the rural sector, and evaluate proposals for improvement.
  • Use the information and inputs generated in the project to improve the articulation of financing instruments and the implementation of ecosystem-based adaptation measures.
  • Participate in the development of project proposals and studies on financing nature-based solutions (NbS) in the rural sector.
  • Conduct cost-benefit analyses to assess the financial aspects of potential climate change adaptation projects. · Use of lessons learned on funding sources for the development of new public, private and mixed mechanisms.
  • Prepare progress reports on projects and studies in progress. · Preparation of semi-annual and annual reports.

Requirements:   

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, finance, environment, economics, politics
  • public, international development or a discipline related to climate finance. Minimum Bachelor’s degree (graduate degree will be desirable).   

Experience:

  • At least 3 years of experience in project development and management, applied research, leadership positions, climate policy work or similar.   
  • Experience in managing and leading teams, talent and alliances with government institutions at national and local levels. – Experience in accessing and executing resources from international funders such as the Green Climate Fund (GEF) is desirable.
