ABOUT COPYRIGHT COLLECTIVE OF CANADA (CCC): CCC is a non-profit organization, established by the Motion Picture Association to represent copyright owners (producers and distributors) of the U.S. motion picture and television entertainment programming. CCC collects and distributes statutorily mandated royalties for the retransmission of those films and television programs broadcast on Canadian or U.S. commercial over-the-air broadcast signals in Canada. CCC is located in Toronto and is seeking an accountant to join our team.REPORTINGTO: Executive DirectorPOSITION SUMMARY: This role is responsible for all aspects of royalty collection and Accounts Receivable, including receivables from retransmission operators. Assist VP, Finance and Administration with general accounting duties and other duties as required.RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Accounts Receivables – Oversee and perform all duties relating to royalty collection and Accounts Receivable, which include but are not limited to: verification of royalties received; dealing directly with retransmitters to address discrepancies or correct errors; reconcile between Great Plains (GP) and retransmitter reports; create and maintain a database in excel to track retransmitter adjustments.
- Assist VP, Finance & Administration with day-to-day accounting duties including banking, bank reconciliation, Accounts Payable, General ledger, preparation of financial statements, GST/HST reporting, royalty distribution accounting. Annual Duties including preparation of year end audit file and T5/NR4 reporting. Other duties may be assigned as required including financial analyses and reports, software system upgrades and implementation.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Have a degree from a post-secondary institution, having formally studied accounting, with 4 – 8+ years’ related work experience (in accounts receivable, accounts payable, general accounting reporting and reconciliation)
- Familiarity and understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
- Proficient working with accounting software Microsoft Dynamics GP, Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, and have the willingness to learn others as required.
- Team player: able to form good co-operative relationships with other staff members, other collectives, retransmitters and vendors.
- Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
- Strong communication skills in both writing and orally in English.
- Excellent analytical, problem solving and interpersonal skills.
- Organized and technically strong processing the full range of accounting skills with effective time management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information and possess integrity.
- Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and pay attention to detail.
- Familiarity with business practices of broadcasters and broadcast distribution undertakings (i.e., cable and satellite providers) and royalty distribution accounting knowledge would be desirable.
