Finance DepartmentABOUT THE ROLEThe Fort McKay First Nation is seeking a detail orientated individual with excellent communication skills to fill the Accounting Clerk position. Reporting to the Accounting Supervisor, the Accounting Clerk is primarily responsible for financial, administrative, and clerical services. This includes verifying and processing customer invoices, billing requisitions, and expense claims and performing related administrative duties. This is a permanent full-time position and is based on seventy-five (75) hours bi-weekly, located in Fort McKay, AB.KEY RESPONSIBILITIESPrimary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Compile, organize, verify, and enter a variety of financial data from various sources.
  • Prepare daily bank deposit.
  • Enter any deposits into ACCPAC (maintain filing and recording of daily deposits).
  • Prepare any miscellaneous invoices from other departments.
  • Record monthly bank transactions (i.e. service charges, monthly leases and PHT transactions).
  • Record INAC monthly deposits.
  • Perform SA Reconciliation with GL entries.
  • Carry out billing, collection and reporting activities according to specific deadlines.
  • Reconciliation of assigned general ledger accounts.
  • Monitor customer account details for non-payments, delayed payments and other irregularities.
  • Maintain accounts receivable customer files.
  • Follow established procedures for processing receipts, cash etc.
  • Review and process monthly transactions for Rent Roll with Housing Department.
  • Maintain filing of bank statements and AP payments.
  • Answer customer enquiries and queries.
  • Maintain financial records for FM Landing general ledger.
  • Prepare monthly reports for revenues, rent receivables and accounts receivable balances.
  • Assist the accountants with month end closing processes.
  • Maintain various schedules for year-end audit process.
  • Reconcile all trust account balances and ensure EFTs are recorded appropriately.
  • Track revenues from all government agencies per established confirmations.
  • Prepare annual property tax billings and ensure collections.
  • Other duties as assigned.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • Certificate in office or business administration or related program.
  • Two (2) years of experience in an accounting role.
  • Working knowledge of Sage accounting software is an asset.
  • Math and numeracy skills in a computerized environment.
  • Proficient understanding of accounting standards and knowledge.
  • Basic proficiency with various Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook) and Sage.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Experience working in an Indigenous community including knowledge of First Nations culture, traditions and values is considered an asset.
  • Clean criminal record check is required
