Our Finance Team’s critical function is to provide service-oriented support to EAC staff who work tirelessly on diverse projects sponsored by multiple funders. Our Accounting Clerks perform the daily and monthly accounting and financial activities for the organization, including month-end postings and bank reconciliations. This position will provide on-site mailroom function and other operational admin support as required. The position will report to the Finance Manager.Responsibilities of this position include:

  • Accurate and timely processing of:
  • Accounts payable – suppliers, expenses, rents, and subscriptions, ensure proper documentation post and process payments.
  • Bimonthly cash and cheque deposits to the bank
  • Credit card payments
  • Assist with month-end activities, all revenue and expense postings, and account reconciliation, maintain and reconciling schedules monthly, and reconcile payment processor transactions monthly.
  • Quarter close activities.
  • Provide support for fiscal year-end and annual audit.
  • Maintain/ update an electronic filing system, and ensure proper documentation is kept for financial transactions.
  • Performs mailroom and other clerical duties, such as word processing, maintaining filing and record systems, faxing, and photocopying.
  • Assist with other areas where the processing workload is high – for example, extraction of project finance report info, at the discretion of the Finance Manager.
  • Assist with payroll processing, as needed.
  • Assistance with the issuance of tax receipts in compliance with CRA regulations
  • Additional activities as required.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • 1-2 years’ work experience in accounts payable in a financial capacity or a recent graduate in a corresponding field. Non-profit experience is considered an asset.
  • Post-secondary education, Accounting/Bookkeeping courses (community college or university)
  • Knowledge of basic bookkeeping and financial transactions. Experience with project accounting will be considered an asset.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
  • Initiative, self-motivation, and the ability to work well independently.
  • Excellent time-management skills and experience handling unexpected tasks and last-minute deadlines.
  • Strong written and oral communications
  • Respectful of and responsive to others’ questions, concerns, and ideas; a reflective listener.
  • Positive problem-solving attitude
  • Experience using accounting software, with QuickBooks Online experience strongly preferred.
  • Solid working knowledge of Windows, and Office 365 applications and proficient with Excel. Experience working in a SharePoint system will be considered an asset.
  • High level of trust, integrity, and confidentiality
  • Experience working in contact management databases, preferably CiviCRM, will be considered an asset.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • On-site full-time, permanent position within a four-day work week (Monday to Thursday)
  • Hourly wage will be between $24.59 and $27.00, commensurate with experience.
  • 3 weeks paid vacation per year (pro-rated for the 4-day work week) and 1 week of paid time off during the winter office closure in December. 12 paid holidays per year and paid wellness days (10 per year).
