OverviewUnder the supervision of the Supervisor, Accounting, the Accounting Clerk is responsible for a variety of accounting functions including, verifying, and processing policy holder refunds, processing garnishments, preparing reconciliations, and keying cash ledger entries. The Accounting Clerk is responsible for conducting secondary reviews of payment requisitions, calculating self-assessed PST, preparing, and processing accounting entries, creating, and maintaining accounting records, processing the daily bank deposit, keying payment requisitions, and processing the corporate payment cycle.Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily reconciliations and collaborate with business partners to resolve variances.
  • Create and maintain detailed accounting records.
  • Maintain cheque control procedures, processes payment cycles and release payments.
  • Maintain garnishment orders and ensure appropriate deductions are made and remitted.
  • Batch, key, and upload payment requisitions and process the corporate payment cycle.
  • Prepare and process financial adjustments, service centre cash receipts, settlements, and customer account adjustments.
  • Prepare and balance daily deposit under strict timelines.
  • Prepare and issue cash receipts.
  • Run and balance interfaces between systems.
  • Conduct secondary reviews of payment requisitions and post payment audits.
  • Investigate and resolve customer concerns.
  • Review PST self-assessment calculations and prepare monthly journal entries.
  • Produce various monthly reports.
  • Assist in testing of system upgrades and/or enhancements.
  • Assist as back up for other accounting positions.

Qualifications

  • Two years of related accounting experience in a computerized environment, including one year experience is with spreadsheet applications.
  • Experience in banking or disbursements is an asset.

Education

  • 4 University Courses with a minimum of 2 in Accounting and Business.
  • OR
  • 6 Community College courses with a minimum of 4 in Accounting and Business.
  • OR
  • Completion of Red River’s Applied Accounting Certificate.
  • OR
  • Completion of Herzing College’s Accounting and Payroll Administration Certificate.
  • OR
  • Completion of 1st level of a legacy accounting program (CGA/CMA).
  • Enrolment in the CPA program is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office including Excel, Word, SharePoint, and Access.
  • Working knowledge of accounting practices.
  • Knowledge of IWS, CARS and BI3.
  • Working knowledge of Lawson.
