Purpose

To support the Group Chief Actuary in fulfilling regulatory responsibility for the Actuarial Function (SIMF20), including adequacy of technical provisions and adequacy of reinsurance

Job Role Accountabilities

  • Support the maintenance of the technical provision validation framework and draft validation report to the Audit Committee
  • Support the validation of the technical provision and provide review and challenge
  • Support the embedding and application of the group model risk framework in Actuarial and Finance teams
  • Support the review of the group reinsurance framework and any supporting documents
  • Own the production of reinsurance management information to monitor reinsurance counterparty risk in accordance with the framework
  • Develop and maintain tools, data and processes in compliance with the group model risk framework, EUC and other Just Group standards
  • Provide support and training to the junior students in the team
  • Contribute to other Group Chief Actuary work as allocated

Examples of Key Activities

  • Review assumptions related to technical provisions, e.g. demographic bases
  • Review the controls of actuarial processes and make recommendations
  • Draft validation reports to the Audit Committee in accordance with external reporting timelines
  • Support the business on key actuarial initiatives and regulatory development, for example, Solvency UK Reform and Funded Re Consultation
  • Support the review of new reinsurance contacts and reinsurance addenda to ensure compliance with reinsurance framework and regulations
  • Support setting of counterparty limits for new reinsurers
  • Support ad-hoc reinsurance queries from commercial reinsurance teams
  • Liaise with different actuarial and finance teams to ensure the inputs and outputs of management information are delivered on time
  • Support and train junior students in the team

Skills and Knowledge

  • Strong analytical skills and model review skills
  • Strong time management skills
  • Strong verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Propensity to maintain competence and up to date knowledge
  • Strong IT skills, particularly in Excel, with VBA and Python experience advantageous
  • Knowledge of the products and services provided by the Just Group
  • Understanding of the industry and the Group’s target markets

Experience

  • Experience of working in the life insurance sector, including a good knowledge of life insurance products and markets
  • Experience in actuarial reporting, demographic risk, ALM or reinsurance is preferred, but not essential.
  • Nearly qualified or fully qualified actuary
