Student Administration and Academic Affairs (SAAA) works to enable an excellent experience for students during their time at the University of York, providing information, advice, guidance and support to students from enrolment through to graduation. SAAA also provides advice and guidance to colleagues across the University who rely on its expertise and processes to support the student lifecycle. The work of the Service is also critical in ensuring that the University meets a number of statutory compliance duties.
The Student Administration section of SAAA comprises c. 40 staff across eight core teams: Complaints, Exams & Graduation, PGR Administration, Progression & Awards, Special Cases, Student Financial Support, Student Records, and Visa Compliance. This role is focused principally on the work of the Student Financial Support team, which manages a range of financial support mechanisms, including the University’s Student Support Fund and Emergency Loans schemes which support students experiencing financial hardship, widening participation bursaries, and US Loans.
As part of this role, your areas of focus will include: detailed assessment of applications for financial support, considering evidence and making decisions in line with institutional policies and sector norms; communicating the outcomes of these applications to students clearly and sensitively; administering a range of bursaries funded through the University’s Access and Participation Plan in support of widening participation; and support the administration of US Loans. If you have a good eye for detail, the ability to apply regulation and policy to the analysis of complex applications for support, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and are committed to service improvement to support the student experience, we would welcome your application.
Role
To work within Student Administration as an Officer responsible for delivery of key areas of work and the implementation of associated policies, including contributing to service improvement activity. The job will be focused principally on the work of the Student Financial Support team. The post-holder will deliver agreed outcomes as part of a broader team and will provide advice and support to colleagues and service users.
Skills, Experience & Qualification needed
- Educated to at least A Level standard or equivalent (or with comparable work experience);
- Strong IT skills,with the ability to use Microsoft and Google Suite products;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to provide detailed advice and guidance on specialist defined processes and procedures to internal and external contacts;
- Numeracy & literacy skills with the ability to monitor expenditure against a financial account/budget;
- Ability to effectively organise and prioritise own work and follow procedures in order to produce work to a high standard, to required deadlines;
- Professional, diplomatic and confident in dealing with a wide range of people and situations;
- An energetic, professional and thorough approach to work, with an eye for detail;
- Highly motivated, able to learn quickly and work independently or as part of a team.
This is an open contract working on a part-time basis.
