About the roleJoin the Risk Modelling team in the Advisor, Modelling position. In this role, you will serve as a key contributor to the growth of intellectual capital across the organization and influence the development of advanced risk analysis, data science and knowledge of Canada’s financial and mortgage sectors. You will act as an expert on modelling and analysis techniques, on methodology and on mortgage and credit risk standards as well as lead pilot modelling initiatives and use the results to influence the creation of new modelling and analysis techniques and standards at CMHC. You will also lead the examination of market trends and trends in macroeconomic variables and interpret the results in order to enhance operational knowledge, resolve complex problems or make recommendations to management on strategic decisions.What you’ll do:

  • Lead research on models and study industry practices in support of Model Development and Operation across a range of model types, including models for Economic Capital, Stress Testing, Underwriting, and Property Valuation.
  • Leverage your experience and skills to manage model design across various programming languages, optimizing model performance on IT platforms such as ML Ops/Azure.
  • Manage Technical Documentation of models and ensure all documentation is completed according to corporate protocol.
  • Lead the continuous examination of industry trends, as well as trends related to tools and techniques in order to make recommendations and influence innovation in modelling, big data analysis, data science or machine learning at CMHC.
  • Lead strategic discussions on modelling both internally and externally to influence the knowledge and modelling of mortgage and credit risks.
  • Maintain relationships with internal and external partners to ensuring bidirectional knowledge transfer required to develop, validate and implement models, and interpret their results using state-of-the-art methods and technology.

What you should have:

  • A Postgraduate degree or higher in a quantitative discipline such as finance, mathematics, economics, actuarial science, or another related program.
  • A minimum of seven (7) years’ relevant work experience in an area such as Economic Capital modelling, quantitative analysis, or data science at a bank, insurance company, asset manager or other type of financial institution.
  • Strong experience managing Technical Documentation, working in ML Ops/Azure IT platforms, and leveraging programing languages such as Python, R-squared, etc.
  • Strong understanding of mathematical finance and risk management.
  • Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills, technical leadership skills, project management skills, and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

It would be great if you also had:

  • A professional designation (Actuarial, Chartered Financial Analyst, Professional Risk Manager, Financial Risk Manager, or Certificate in Quantitative Finance).
