We are looking for an Advisor – Concentrator Scheduling to join the Rio Tinto Kennecott Minerals Productivity and Scheduling team to support the business and operations through operations scheduling, technical analysis, and collaborating with multiple teams and sites on improvement projects.

This role is a great opportunity to develop your mining and processing knowledge. Reporting to the Superintendent – Concentrator Scheduling, primarily you will be:

  • Responsible for generating and publishing the scheduling plans in both the daily and weekly horizon.
  • Collaborating with Mine Scheduling, Ore Body Knowledge, Asset Management, Operations, and Metals/Minerals teams to optimize the ore delivery and mineral processing strategies.
  • Accountable for producing daily and weekly production reconciliations and forward forecasting production numbers for copper and by products.
  • Completing regular Field Leadership interactions with various front-line teams to drive a culture of care.

Secondarily you will be asked to:

  • Identify and execute cost savings initiatives and improvement projects.
  • Assist the processing/technical team with concentrator performance projects and analysis.
  • Support safety projects and incident management efforts.
  • Actively collaborate with the production planning teams at the mine, smelter, and tailings facility.
  • Conduct financial analyses for capital requests/approvals.
  • Engage in the Safe Production System sustaining journey across site.

What you’ll bring

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Metallurgical, Mining, or Chemical Engineering or equivalent studies
  • 2+ years experience working in processing or mining
  • Strong safety mentality and familiarity with safety systems
  • An open mindset and desire to learn
  • Proven ability to operate independently and in small multi-discipline teams
  • Experience working in technical teams, contributing to projects, and an ability to build collaborative relationships
  • Well-developed analytical skills and technical competencies
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with employees at all levels of the organization
  • Intermediate to Advanced proficiency in MS Office

It will also be beneficial if you have:

  • Knowledge of copper ore processing
  • Knowledge of mining operations
  • Knowledge of maintenance or production planning
  • Project Management skills
