Brucejack is a fly-in/fly-out operation with pick-up points across Western Canada, making it easy for people from different places to join us. The committee also plans holiday decorations, charity raffles, and outdoor events, helping create a warm and friendly community.PurposeOur Brucejack operation is now recruiting for an Advisor-Indigenous Relations with a competitive salary of $74,925,000 – $87,075 dependent on experience, skills, and competencies with consideration to internal equity.The Advisor, Indigenous Relations plays a pivotal role in supporting Indigenous employees at Brucejack through a combined human resources and Indigenous cultural perspective. This site-based role focuses on providing HR guidance, addressing employee relations issues, performance management, and fostering an inclusive environment for Indigenous employees.
The Advisor, Indigenous Relations will collaborate closely with the broader HR team and site leadership to integrate Indigenous cultural considerations into daily operations, policies, and practices. The position will be site based at Brucejack Camp and operate on a rotational scheduleCore CompetenciesThe Advisor, Indigenous Relations will possess a unique blend of competencies and expertise, including:

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, enabling effective engagement with diverse groups.
  • Strong understanding of Indigenous cultures and practices, particularly those of the First Nations represented at Brucejack, including:
  • Tahltan
  • Nisga’a
  • Gitanyow Huwlip
  • Skii km Lax Ha lands
  • Problem-solving and mediation skills, with the ability to address conflicts and challenges in a culturally sensitive manner.
  • High emotional intelligence, fostering positive relationships and a supportive work environment.
  • Adaptability and resilience in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities and competing demands.
  • Exceptional collaboration skills, working effectively with diverse teams, including Indigenous and non-Indigenous employees.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities, making informed decisions and addressing complex HR issues.
  • Commitment to confidentiality, respecting employee privacy and handling sensitive information with professionalism.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and other relevant applications.

Key ResponsibilitiesEmployee Advocacy and Support

  • Act as a primary point of contact for Indigenous employees to raise concerns or seek support.
  • Provide guidance on workplace policies, procedures, and issues.
  • Assist employees in navigating internal processes, including conflict resolution, performance management, and career development.

Indigenous Relations and Cultural Competency

  • Educate employees and leaders on cultural awareness and Indigenous workplace inclusion.
  • Support the development and implementation of programs that promote Indigenous employment, retention, and career advancement.

Conflict Resolution and Advocacy

  • Mediate and facilitate discussions to resolve workplace issues, ensuring cultural considerations are respected.
  • Escalate and advocate for the resolution of concerns raised by Indigenous employees while maintaining confidentiality and impartiality.

Strategic Partnership

  • Partner with HR colleagues, including the Employee Engagement Specialist, to integrate Indigenous perspectives into broader HR and site initiatives.
  • Support various HR projects and assist with other HR-related tasks as required, contributing to the overall success of the HR department.
  • Collaborate with the Community Liaison team to develop and support Indigenous initiatives at Brucejack and within surrounding Indigenous communities.

Engagement and Representation

  • Represent the company in Indigenous-focused committees, events, and initiatives.
  • Work with leaders to support recruitment and community engagement efforts.
  • Participate in the Indigenous Cultural Alliance Committee, supporting initiatives that enhance cultural awareness and integrate Indigenous practices into the workplace.
  • Work with the Employee Engagement Specialist to develop and promote Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and engagement initiatives, particularly those that relate to Indigenous cultures.

Training & ExperienceQualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Indigenous Studies, Social Sciences, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Human Resources, Employee Relations, or a similar role, with a focus on Indigenous engagement preferred.
  • Strong understanding of Indigenous cultures, traditions, and issues related to employment and inclusion.
  • Experience with Impact Benefit Agreements
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to navigate sensitive situations with empathy, discretion, and professionalism.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance competing priorities and needs in a complex work environment.
