The Advocacy & Communications Coordinator is responsible for the development, update, and implementation of the DRC Kenya Advocacy Strategy as well as the coordination of public communications including branding and visibility initiatives.
The Advocacy & Communications Coordinator will be responsible for the development of advocacy briefs drawn from knowledge products (protection monitoring reports, MEAL evidence products, research studies, etc.).
  • The role shall in collaboration with technical coordinators, develop advocacy positions and core messaging on DRC Kenya programming as well as contribute towards DRC EAGL regional advocacy initiatives led by the Regional Advocacy Coordinator.
  • The Advocacy & Communications Coordinator shall take the lead in ensuring DRC is represented and participates in strategic advocacy networks and platforms.
  • The position will need to work with different internal stakeholders to develop high-quality advocacy and communication products.
  • The Advocacy & Communications Coordinator will also be responsible for the management of a DRC Kenya content repository including project photos, videos, and human-interest stories and in this the role will be supported by a communications intern. 
Duties & Responsibilities: Responsibilities: 
Advocacy:
  • Liaise with key stakeholders in country and field level for the production and dissemination of advocacy materials in line with DRC´s Country Strategy.
  • Develop, update, and implement the DRC Kenya advocacy strategy and maintain a quarterly advocacy workplan – in line with country office priorities.
  • Regularly conduct policy context analysis and provide updates on key developments related to refugee rights in Kenya.
Protection Monitoring:
  • Jointly with the support of the Protection Coordinator, publish Protection Monitoring Risks and Trends (PMRT) reports outlining findings on protection concerns, multi-sector needs, recommendations, and advocacy points to DRC senior management and external stakeholders. 
  • Carry out secondary data analysis and identify sources of data and information to complement the data collected through field protection monitoring.
Communication:
  • Develop and maintain DRC Kenya’s repository of communications products (photos, videos, human interest stories)
  • Manage DRC Kenya’s external communications platforms (Facebook, Twitter) 
  • Produce infographics and accessible information products for different audiences.
Partnership:
  • Jointly with the support of the Partnerships Coordinator, offer technical assistance to DRC civil society partners on advocacy and communications
Experience and technical competencies: 
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in the humanitarian sector related with an NGO/United Nations or civil society organization.
  • Experience in using research methodologies and data collection tools.
  • Excellent drafting skills in English and experience in report writing different audiences.
  • Experience in developing advocacy plans and conducting advocacy activities with a range of stakeholders.
  • Experience in the production of technical material (training material, tools, reports, documents, etc.).
  • Good networking skills.
  • Knowledge of humanitarian standards, human rights, humanitarian law, and refugee law.
  • Ability to work under pressure, identify priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Calm and diplomatic character.
  • Willingness and ability to learn and grow professionally.
  • Familiarity and knowledge on protection programming particularly GBV and Child Protection.
Education:
  • Degree in law, human rights, international relations, development, social sciences, journalism or another relevant subject.
Language:
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Fluency in spoken Kiswahili
