GLOBAL OBJECTIVE OF THE POSITION:
Under the line management of the Medic Supervisor the Ambulance Driver is part of the team conducing Mine Action activities in the working areas assigned to the MTT. The MTT component of the project involves the location, removal and destruction of Explosive Remnants of War (ERW) and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), marking Suspected and Confirmed Hazardous Areas (SHA/CHA) and delivering emergency Risk Education (RE) safety briefings to persons at risk on the dangers of ERW and IEDs who are living, traveling or working close to the hazardous areas. The Ambulance Driver is tasked to assist the project by manning the ambulance which provides the evacuation transportation mean in case of accident/incident. Medical support is a key service which must be in place at all times while conducting mine action operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS DECRIPTION
Ambulance Driver Tasks
- Drive the ambulance, this is to be conducted safely and in consideration of road conditions.
- Maintain the ambulance in a serviceable condition in order to respond quickly and effectively to a traumatic incident.
- Undertake daily maintenance of the vehicle and reports any faults or equipment deficiencies, maintains a mileage and fuel used log.
- Be familiar with the route from the task site to the nearest medical facility included in the MEDEVAC/CASEVAC approved by the Medic Supervisor, and also to be aware of alternative routes in the event of road works, etc.
- The driver is responsible for the security of the vehicle and its contents.
- Maintain a network of the local maintenance organizations and local medical facilities

Scales are maintained as per SOPs. He is familiar with how to use all items of equipment safely and correctly. |

His vehicle is equipped with medical kit and in traumatic equipment including in date drugs. Knows the route and alternative routes to the nearest medical facility. |

Monitor communications between Base/Ops and work sites. |
Is aware of activities in Hazardous Areas. Responds quickly and effectively to incident. |

To ensure that all necessary data and reports are compiled and submitted as required .

Reports (daily checks, mileage and fuel logs) are accurate, on time and comprehensive, and distributed as necessary. Investigations are undertaken when necessary, and full reports submitted. Any necessary insurance claims forms are Completed quickly and accurately. |

Assists the medic in undertaking inventory check of trauma bag. |
Trauma bag contents are in date. Items nearing expiry date are identified and demanded. |

To ensure that the organisation and any additional regional or contractual quality assurance measures are applied consistently in his project areas of responsibility. |

Assists with Set Up and Preparation of CP and maintenance of the facility. |

Smoking is not permitted in the vehicle at any time. |

Prevention of accidents by becoming distracted |

No loss of vehicle. No stores, equipment or vehicle accessories unlawfully removed from vehicles. |

Reports any damage to the vehicle or its accessories and other stores and or equipment contained within or stored externally. |
Items are repaired and immediately replaced. |

Note that the Ambulance Driver will be requested to remain very flexible, to respond to additional tasks or changes as identified by his line manager.
Qualifications & Preferred Skills
REQUIRED PROFILE
Education:
- Professional driving license manual
- First Aid training.
Languages:
- Excellent in local languages
- Preferable to speak and write English
Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years professional experience, preferably in a similar role.
- Previous experience with international or local NGO is desirable.
- Previous work in Mine Action is desirable.
Skills:
- Experience of driving off road and under challenging conditions
- Sound knowledge of vehicle mechanics and maintenance.
- Close familiarity with the local terrain and environment.
- Able to handle confidential and sensitive information.
- Able to operate different means of communication (radio, satphone, etc).
- Be able to work in a safe manner and as per SOPs.
- Able to work as part of a team.
- Strong interpersonal and intercultural skills.
- A demonstrated commitment to high professional ethical standards and humanitarian values.
- Clean Driving Licence is mandatory (Handicap International will require those undertaking driving responsibilities to undertake an internal practical test).
