Job SummaryJob DescriptionWhat is the opportunity?
As an Analyst, Mobility Tax, you will be an integral part of the Global Mobility Centre of Expertise and will work closely with the Mobility Tax team to provide advisory and administrative support resulting from RBC’s various international mobility programs. Combining your subject matter expertise in employer and employee income tax with our team and external partners’ (Tax, Immigration & RMC) engagement, you will facilitate delivery of an exceptional experience for all stakeholders – employees, management and HR – through cost efficient, compliance-focused, industry-leading programs. This work encompasses all RBC business platforms and covers global employee mobility in and out of our global locations with a focus on business travel into Canada, UK and the US, as well as US interstate travelers.What will you do?

  • Act as an employee-facing RBC contact and subject matter expert (SME) on income tax impacts to their pay arising from our programs (transfers, commuters, business travelers, balance-sheet, etc.). This may also include expanding your support to provide assistance in understanding how unique global compensation programs and global payroll deductions impact income tax deductions, credits and ultimately the employee experience.
  • Utilize your understanding of cross-border, cross-State, and international mobility income tax (employer and employee) knowledge to provide a high level of employee and HR support and engagement in the tax process throughout the year and at year end.
  • Working with our tax services provider and our employees to ensure a timely and seamless tax filing process (process may include, but are not limited to, obtaining tax ID’s, timely filings, application of tax waivers and foreign tax credits, etc.).
  • Work with team to implement tighter and accurate tax reporting and tax liability collection processes.
  • Work with mobility services provider to support operations of short-term business travel program as it relates to tax (personal, corporate tax concepts), immigration, reporting and process management
  • Responsible for identification and implementation of process enhancements, program reporting to senior management and business groups, escalations to Senior Manager, and supporting the Senior Manager in overall program operational improvements.
  • Through a combination of direct involvement and oversight of internal and external resources, you will be responsible for payroll authorization to advance tax on behalf of a traveler, recovery of funds due to RBC from the employee, and maintaining record of taxes advanced & recovered.
  • Ensure that our daily general ledger is balanced, monthly/quarterly review and attestations are completed to satisfy internal financial reporting, monthly negotiation of liability variance (f/x, recovery differential).
  • Review and approve vendor invoicing, maintenance of all internal process documentation.
  • Manage external providers ensuring optimal services delivery, handling issues within delegated authority and escalating to senior management attention, as required.
  • Continuously build knowledge in areas that impact the mobility programs, including on legislative regulations, external benchmarking, etc.

What do you need to succeed?

  • 5+ years of relevant experience in global corporate environment, preferably in Global Mobility, Finance, or Tax.
  • Working knowledge of employer and employee income tax (Canadian, US, UK, at a minimum).
  • Experience with short-term business travel compliance programs is an asset but not a requirement.
  • Financial literacy with experience reconciling general ledgers and preparation of internal reporting; attention to detail
  • A can-do attitude with passion for delivering an exceptional employee experience
  • Strong organization skills, self-started with the ability to prioritize work; outstanding verbal and written communication
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver under pressure through both independent and/or collaborative work effort
  • Self-learner, open to change and making improvements to programs that will deliver operational excellence
  • Strong technical capability (MS Excel, vendor web-based admin tools, SAP, Workday); experience with business report preparation & presentation
