B49 6PQMeet the teamMy apprenticeship has helped me gain so much knowledge – it’s been amazing! Crew Member Level 2The apprenticeship helps to enhance what I’m doing in my role, while gaining a recognised qualification. Customer Care Assistant and Customer Experience Leader Level 2Completing the apprenticeship has made me focus on how to motivate people and focus on their individual needs. Shift Leader Level 3Show transcript[00:08] So I was at six form doing three different[00:11] A levels, but they just weren’t really for me because[00:14] I was working part-time at McDonald’s already at that point and just[00:17] enjoyed it so much more working and making money.[00:24] It has helped me get these promotions and climb up[00:27] the ladder from that crew member when I first started. I didn’t[00:30] see myself as even being a floor manager there, like, being in[00:33] charge of people my own age and older than me.[00:40] Most of my friends are all at six form or College just doing[00:43] their A levels and most of them are just all jealous because I’m[00:46] just there at home just doing some work on my laptop and[00:49] my extra time and I’m paid to do it as well. Whereas they’ll[00:52] be sat at home studying for hours doing their homework and they’re[00:55] not paid for that.[01:00] It can be a bit daunting yeah, but with the support[01:03] of my business manager, she’s always told me from the start that she[01:06] knew I could do this and she can see me being a[01:09] shift manager being a business manager even. Yeah, there[01:12] is definitely a family feeling at McDonald’s.[01:19] Definitely, definitely go for it. It’s amazing and you[01:22] gain so much knowledge out of it and it’ll just[01:25] help you so much through the career. It’s great.[00:14] It’s equivalent to five GCSEs.[00:17] You can also do like English and maths on top. I never[00:20] got those at school. So for me, even though I’m 41 this[00:23] month I wanted to do that. I like to think I’m good at[00:26] my job, but you’re always learning. So although[00:29] you think you’re good. It is better to think “right you[00:32] can enhance your skills. Have you tried looking at this way?” So[00:35] it is just to enhance what I am already doing[00:38] and hopefully help me be very good at my job[00:45] You think you know[00:46] your job but Apprenticeship really touches in[00:49] loads of areas that you can bring into your job every[00:52] single day and it makes you more of a stronger[00:55] person. You can deliver that to your customers much better than[00:58] what you did before.[01:03] So the positive was that A, I was[01:06] able to do it without thinking, “Oh at my[01:09] age what do you expect?” and it was a feel-good[01:12] factor of knowing that this is going to be a recognised qualification. I[01:15] don’t usually believe in myself and this has given me[01:18] a lot more confidence to grow and I’ve[01:21] really enjoyed doing it.[01:24] Grasp it,[01:28] you know, you can learn and you can even develop[01:31] in things that you’d maybe taken for granted and[01:34] you think well, I never thought of it like that. So it gives you the[01:37] opportunity and the confidence. I would[01:40] say if I can do it with four children and work[01:43] part-time.[01:45] Anybody can do it. You’ve just got to believe in yourself. And[01:48] if you are struggling at any point speak to the manager, they[01:51] will help you. They will support you and you’ll do it definitely.[00:15] I think being able to do the apprenticeship has made me focus on[00:18] sort of how to motivate people and focus on their individual needs. It’s[00:21] really pushed that factor and it’s created a much[00:24] better work environment. It’s very positive and everyone’s sort of[00:27] reactive to it. That really sort of gets me up[00:30] in the morning gets me going.[00:36] Yeah, I’d say they’re definitely seen a change as I’ve been promoted twice since[00:39] doing it. So I’ve just become more knowledgeable[00:42] and like different aspects of the restaurant that you won’t really[00:45] learn about on the day-to-day basis, Yeah, you get a better[00:48] inside image of the business and you understand so many[00:51] things and it’s like[00:52] it makes light into your life through many aspects,[00:55] you’re like whoa.[01:01] I feel like he’s my friend to be honest. I talk to him like with a friend. We[01:04] always have a good laugh on the calls, he always[01:07] advises me. If I need anything he will answer my[01:10] text straightaway. He will give me advice. He will guide me through it. I[01:13] had a really hard test.[01:15] I felt like I wasn’t going to get the[01:18] mark that I necessarily wanted. My mentor was[01:21] a big motivator there. She was like no. No, you’ve got this I believe[01:24] in you. So definitely the support from the people[01:27] around me is what helped me overcome it.[01:30] Yeah, absolutely develop[01:33] yourself as a person just go for it.[01:36] Career-wise it sets you up, gives[01:38] you money for whatever you want to do really, while you’re learning.[01:41] I think everyone could do it. It doesn’t matter where you are[01:44] coming from or what age you have, because it’s easy,[01:47] it’s just easy for everybody.Training and supportSince 2006, we’ve supported over 19,500 apprentices across the business.
