We are hiring an Area Coordinator to provide overall leadership, direction, and oversight of programs in an International Undisclosed Location. The Area Coordinator must ensure that all programmatic designs implementation plans and outputs in the area align with the Samaritan’s Purses strategy, donor standards, and local laws. Other essential duties include the management of operations, safety and security, human resources, financial reporting, and community relations and representation.
A day in the life of an Area Coordinator:

In the role of Area Coordinator, you will have the opportunity to:
- Directs the work of program managers in the field and helps to address programmatic challenges.
- Adjusts implementation strategies as needed and ensures that each program in the assigned area is contributing impact for the community. This can be measured by working in tandem with the monitoring, evaluation and learning team based in Juba.
- Produces timely and acurrate program reports submitted to the DCD as well as quartlerly, semi-annual and final reports submitted to other internal stakeholders and external grantors.
- Ensures program operations are functional by assigining resources and assets to staff based on team priorities.
- Manages accountability/efficiency mechanisms, monitors the procurement of goods and services, and audits procurement systems, pricing and inventory systems on a monthly basis.
- Develops new program concepts to address needs in Mayendit County in coordination with program managers, the finance unit, and the grants unit. This includes coordinating assessments and writing proposals/budgets in order to focus on sectors with the biggest needs.
- Serves as the security focal point in the area. This requires updating evacuation and contingency plans frequently, conducting regular security meetings with national/international staff, gathering information in the local area, assessing risk in coordination with senior management in Juba to determine safe areas of operation, enforcing safety and security policies/procedures, and submitting incident reports to the Security Manager and DCD (e.g. vehicle accidents, thefts, armed attacks, etc.).
- Manages human resources (HR) in the area by working directly with the HR Manager in Juba. This includes ensuring staff morale is high by developing a staff care plan, tracking and approving staff leave, developing performance goals for direct reports, conducting performance evaluations, resolving staff disputes, conducting interviews for senior positions, and enforicing disciplinary measures as needed.
- Monitors financial risk, reporting, and program budgets and reviews program activity reports to ensure proper expense allocation.
- Works with the field accountant to produce funds requests and spending forecasts.
- Approves funds requests and payments and perfoms surpise cash counts as dictated by financial policy.
- Facilitates good community relations by establishing and maintaining positive relationships with church leaders, government officials, the United Nations, and non governmental organizations through relevant meetings and coordination events, ensuring that Samaritan’s Purse is accepted in the community and is working in tandem with other stakeholders to address community needs.

Qualifications & Experience
Bachelors degree and 3-4 years of related experience working in program management and field-level management roles, preferably in Africa; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Twelve credit hours of college-level Biblical studies required.
- Thorough knowledge of key management principles, such as strategic planning, effective communication, decision-making, delegation, problem-solving and motivation of staff.
- General knowledge of project management, basic accounting principles and how to develop base and programmatic budgets.
- Able to coordinate and communicate with staff and other agencies, building strong and positive working relationships.
- Excellent skills in both written and spoken English.
- Arabic languages skills are preferred but not required.

Travel Expectations: Approximately 20 days/year; maintaining required travel documents and vaccinations for entry into foreign countries will be necessary.
