This role involves assisting in managing the accounting team, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory standards, and providing financial analysis and guidance to management.AccountabilitiesAccounting Functions:Assist in conducting financial analysis to support decision-making and strategic planning. Aid in evaluating investment opportunities, cost-saving initiatives, and revenue-generating activities.
Perform full cycle accounting, overseeing all general accounting operations.
Prepare government remittances, GST/PST, payroll, and corporate tax according to all statutory deadlines.
Review and maintain monthly bank statements and general ledger reconciliations.
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and year end accounting report.
Collaborate with department heads to assist in the development of annual budgets and forecasts. Assist in monitoring variances between actual results and budgeted amounts, providing insights and recommendations for improvement.
Perform financial analysis on Project costing and Revenue.
Examine manufacturing costs and prepare regular reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs (Per unit Cost / Activity base costing)
Ensure financial recording accuracy and compliance with established accounting standards (ASPE), procedures, and internal controls.
Lead special projects and Provide recommendations to improve accounting practices. Establish priorities, initiate new ideas, and concepts to deal with problems, and to improve efficiency.
Forward-thinking preparation and coordination of fiscal year-end audits working papers for the company in preparation for the auditors. Serving as a liaison to external auditorsLeadership:Lead, Coach and Mentor direct reports, ensuring smooth operations of the accounting department and maintaining synergistic relationships with all other departments.
Support recruiting, staffing, training, and onboarding processes as appropriate.
Ensures excellent customer service is delivered to internal customers and suppliers.
Coach, supervise, mentor, plan and allocate resources, manage performance of direct reports.EducationBachelor’s degree in business or a finance-related discipline.
Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation or in progress is an asset.Experience / Capabilities5+ years experience as a General Accountant & 2+ year experience as supervisory role.
Experience using Financial Software, Sage Systems, MS Suite.
Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Excel.
Working knowledge of accounting principles, credit practices and collection regulations.
Strong knowledge of Canadian accounting standards and tax regulations.
Meticulous in attention to detail and accuracy coupled with exceptional follow up skills.
Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities.
Strong analytical, critical thinking, problem solving and decision-making skills to evaluate alternatives and provide recommendations for payroll related issues.
Demonstrate prioritization, balance competing demands, organization skills and time management.
Ability to work independently and effectively under pressure.
Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to relate to and connect at all levels of the organization.
Excellent organization and communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey ideas both verbally and in writing.
