Join ITV.Your impact sends ripples.The teamThe Scripted Commissioning team is responsible for the development, creative management, and commissioning of Drama and Comedy across our family of channels. From nurturing beloved returning series to discovering the hits of tomorrow—like Trigger Point, Playing Nice, and Piglets—we shape ITV’s scripted slate to engage and entertain audiences.The roleThe Assistant Commissioner will report to the Director of Drama and Head of Comedy, supporting the Scripted team in identifying, developing, and creatively managing high-end Drama and Comedy content for ITV.Key responsibilities:

  • Have an overview of submissions and ideas sent into the team by producers. This includes proposals, pitches, treatments, and scripts submitted.
  • Review submissions to identify projects of interest and those that are not the right fit for ITV.
  • Provide timely, professional, and constructive responses to producers whose ideas are not being pursued.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with independent producers, in-house departments, and on- and off-screen talent by taking general meetings to communicate the ITV brief.
  • Support the Scripted Commissioning team across Press, PR, Marketing, Programme Strategy, and the internal and external presentation of ideas.
  • Stay across commissioned projects and identify potential gaps in ITV’s slate, sharing insights with producers.
  • Assist the Commissioning team in the development and production of a broad range of Drama and Comedy projects, from script notes to reviewing rushes and cuts.
  • Seek innovative ways to bring mainstream ideas to the screen.
  • Help identify and develop new opportunities for ITV Drama and Comedy.

Skills you’ll need (minimum criteria)

  • Proven Script Editor experience in drama.
  • An understanding of what projects would work for ITV, and an understanding of our shows and audience.
  • Knowledge of the broadcast landscape and a range of contacts in terms of key independent and ITV studios suppliers, on and off-screen talent, their agents etc.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and contacts within the UK production community, including writers, directors & producers.
  • Demonstrable experience of understanding and dealing with compliance and editorial issues in Drama & Comedy production.

  • A keen sense of editorial judgement and a strong sense of personal taste when assessing projects.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with UK and international producers and broadcasters, acting as an ambassador for ITV.
  • A creative and imaginative thinker with a strong understanding of mainstream Drama and Comedy.
  • A clear grasp of editorial policy and compliance issues.
  • A proactive commitment to diversity in all its forms, both on and off screen, ensuring ITV content reflects a broad range of communities.
  • Passionate and engaged with ITV’s content, with a strong enthusiasm for its output.
  • Bold, creative, and open to fresh perspectives and original ideas.
