We are also one of the largest buyers of fruit globally each year and continue to enjoy strong growth in this emerging category in retail.The OpportunityThe Assistant Controller reports to the Financial Controller and ensures the development and execution of the proper processes and controls to support company’s business strategies. This role leads the execution of the month-end closing and reporting process and supports the development of financial reports, processes, and procedures to support changing business demands of a growing international company. Additionally, this position works to drive improvements throughout the accounting department, supporting growth and standardising processes.The Role
- Perform monthly and annual close of the company’s consolidated financial statements and reconciliations in accordance with Canadian ASPE.
- Support the preparation and review of the monthly banking reports
- Ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial records and the timeliness of internal and external financial reporting.
- Ensure the timely and accurate filling of monthly/annual sales and purchase tax.
- Ensure that periodic bank reconciliations are completed in a timely manner.
- Undertake financial analysis of the P&L and balance sheet and account reconciliation
- Establish and implement internal controls over financial reporting.
- Assessing internal controls, including risk assessments and reviews of risk areas.
- Participates in the annual external audit process as well any other audits as may be required.
- Prepare quarterly financial reports and comments for investor reporting.
- Special projects and other duties as assigned.
What You Will Bring
- A bachelor’s degree in commerce, accounting or finance.
- CPA designation is required
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience related to the role
- Experience in manufacturing operations or distribution is a must
- Strong hands-on experience in accounting systems (such as general ledger transactions and financial statements) with a mid to large enterprise
- Ability to work in a team and maintain effective relationships at all levels of the company
- Self-starter with a passion for continuous improvement.
- Excellent written and oral communication in French & English
- Detail-oriented, autonomous, and able to take initiative.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and juggle multiple priorities with limited supervision.
- Comfortable rolling up your sleeves and carrying out detailed, complex analysis
- High energy and strong curiosity
- A mindset of continuous process improvements with a focus on questioning the status quo and solution-oriented
- Superior attention to detail and accuracy
