FINANCE ADMINISTRATION & BUDGE (BL-BAP-IUBLA)


Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Serves as the Assistant Director of Financial Operations Accounting for the Bloomington Office of Finance, Administration, and Budget (FAB Office).
  • Manages campus accounting compliance including reviewing non-personnel documents (purchasing, non-base transfers, travel, etc.).
  • Provides operational support to the Assistant Vice Provost of Finance and Budget and the Bloomington Campus Controller.
  • Acts as the initial unit contact for questions related to fiscal policy and accounting standards, financial transaction practice, and internal controls oversight.
  • Assists the Vice Provost for Finance and Administration, the AVP for Finance and Budget, and the BL Campus Controller in developing and leading programs related to employee financial onboarding and training. 
  • Under the direction of the Bloomington AVP of Finance and Budget and the BL Campus Controller, provides operational support to academic and support unit leadership and their teams for fiscal policy as requested, financial transactions process review, accounting standards, closing activities, unit reporting that has impacts on the university financial statements, external reporting, and chart of account modifications. 

General Responsibilities

  • Applies Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Performs more complex accounting assignments requiring advanced professional experience, knowledge, and competency in accounting principle and practices to safeguard the organization’s financial resources and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, laws, and reporting requirements.
  • Establishes and maintains accounting policies and controls, fiscal controls, and financial reports.
  • Prepares, reviews, and provides interpretation of complex reports and analyses for manager and officers.
  • Submits recommendations for improved operations.
  • Oversees and assists with specialized accounting assignments such as the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial activity.
  • Provides work leadership to lower-level accounting employees.

EDUCATION

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field

Preferred

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

  • 5 years of relevant experience

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES

Preferred

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Indiana license or Indiana license eligible upon date of hire

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus.
