Through significant investment in staff development and training, our care teams are well-versed in international best practices and the latest advancements in residential elderly care.Job Purpose:The primary role of Assistant Director of Nursing is to carry out a range of duties to ensure that the care and well-being of residents is met satisfactorily, including assisting in future planning, supervision and control of all staff and deputising for Director of Nursing in their absence.As a key member of the senior management team in the Home, the role holder will demonstrate managerial and leadership skills and facilitate effective communications with all relevant internal and external stakeholders. The role will report to Director of Nursing in the Nursing Home.The position requires a strategic approach to development of services within the Home, embracing continuous quality improvement and the management of changes necessary to achieve organisational objectives.Job BackgroundSilver Stream Healthcare Group one of the largest private residential provider in Ireland for the residential care. Silver Stream Group operates with 12 Nursing Homes across Ireland. The company has a portfolio of 862 residential beds and is providing care to long term, respite, dementia, convalescence and other resident’s needs. Along with Director OF Nursing this role holder is required to plan, direct and supervise all nursing and care services, to the highest of standards within the Home.About the roleRoles & Responsibilities:In collaboration with the Director of Nursing, oversee the organisation, and management, of operations at Nursing Home.Communicate directly with residents, families, medical staff, nursing staff, interdisciplinary and team members to coordinate care and service and maintain a high quality of care and life for residents.Responsible for implementing clinical policies and procedures. Ensure all policies and procedures are communicated and interpreted by staff through observation of practices and the clinical audit programme.Ensure that current nursing policies and procedures conform to current nursing practice standards, legislation and HIQA standards.Identify, manage, and reduce risk in collaboration with the Director of Nursing. Ensure all staff are aware of the Risk Management, Health, and Safety procedures.Ensure that effective safety procedures are developed and managed to comply with statutory obligations, in conjunction with relevant staff e.g., health and safety procedures, emergency procedures.Support and provide guidance to CNMs and Nursing Staff in developing person centred care plans based on a thorough risk assessment and ensure that these are reviewed formally every four months.Support, lead, and guide Clinical Nurse Managers in the daily management of their assigned units, And act as the senior clinical lead for decision-making in each unit.Support a collaborative approach to resident care by coordinating care and interventions provided by the Multidisciplinary team. Ensures that residents and, where applicable, their families are consulted.Encourage change and innovation in the approach to resident care delivery, particularly in light of new research findings and advances in elder care.Assist the Person in Charge in maintaining professional standards in the centre.Ensure that the Quality Improvement programme is maintained within the centre by conducting audit to measure the effectiveness of care delivery and systems with associated corrective action whilst promoting quality assurance to ensure safe delivery of care and life for residents in the centre.Responsible to respond to any concerns/complaints raised by residents, families, or staff; ensure that these are addressed immediately, reported upwards, and documented. Assist the Director of Nursing to investigate, responding to, and disseminate learnings from all complaints and concerns.Demonstrate knowledge of and application of key clinical quality indicators, and proactively monitor and implement systems to achieve defined KPI’s.Assisting and coordinating arrangements for residents’ admissions/discharges to include comprehensive pre-admission assessments.Participate in overall governance meetings where required and ensure daily and weekly clinical management team meetings are held to discuss resident status, or resident complaints/concerns and risk management.In collaboration with the Training and Development Manager ensure all Mandatory and supplementary training. All staff inductions and work orientations are effectively planned, and associated records are maintained.Participate in annual performance reviews, to identify training needs.Participate in the identification, development and delivery of education, training and development programmes for nursing and non-nursing staffAssist the Director of Nursing with training needs analysis, thematic inspections, mandatory training, and organisational needs.Manage all resources efficiently and effectively within agreed budgetEnsure that there is a planned and accurate staff roster ensuring and clearly showing staff on duty during the day and night and for its maintenanceEnsure adequate levels of stocks/supplies are maintained.Implement Company Health and Safety Policy to safeguard the safety and welfare of staff, residents, and others.Implement regular fire training and make sure all evacuation plans are up to date in conjunction with Estates and Engineering Manager.Ensure catering team meets HACCP standards and is maintain at the highest quality & variety at all times.Ensure the hygiene and cleanliness of the home is to the highest standard in conjunction with Facility TeamIn conjunction with Estate and Engineering Manager ensure a preventative maintenance programme is in place and implemented.LeadershipEmbraces organisational change and initiatives.Convincingly communicates benefits of change to others.Shows strong initiative; can work outside of standard protocol when necessary.Able to bring new ideas/initiative to fruition.Problem Solving & Decision MakingAble to act quickly to address urgent matters.Demonstrates lateral thinking to generate non-obvious solutions to problems.Grasps how all decisions (both big and small) might affect others.Planning & OrganisingEnsures most effective allocation and use of resources.Anticipates problems and issues and takes preventative action to address these.Can multi-task, without losing focus.Manages competing and changing priorities.Essential Criteria:Registered on the Live Register in the General Division of the Register of Nurses as maintained by the NMBI.Elderly Care QualificationManagement QualificationMinimum of 3 years elderly care experience, which should be at management level.Knowledge of the Nursing Home Industry.Have a full understanding of the National Standards for Residential Care Settings for Older People.Have wide general nursing experience and proven leadership qualities.Have experience/ qualification in /Gerontology.Evidence of consistent updating of clinical skills and knowledge.Demonstrable coaching & development skills within clinical practiceCompetent and confident IT skills.Has worked with or has a knowledge of caring for people with dementiaDesirable Skills:Knowledge and experience in risk managementKnowledge and experience in document management solutionsKnowledge and experience in Healthcare EnvironmentBudget ManagementPresentation SkillsKey Competencies:Excellent organisational skills, self-motivated and self-starterExcellent verbal and communication skillsWillingness to learn and work as part of a multi departmental teamDedicated, reliability and flexible approach to workAbility to set high personal standards of performance and delivery of desired resultsExcellent problem solving and decision-making skillsAbility to work on your own initiativeResponsible and mature approach to workAbout the companySilver Stream Healthcare Group, established in 1993, is a leading Irish provider of residential care services.
