This position begins with the 2024-2025 school year at Dunlap High School, July 1, 2024.FLSA Status: Exempt
Reports to: PrincipalPosition Objective
The Assistant Principal assists the building principal in organizing and fostering a positive, safe environment that is conductive to best meeting the needs of all students, staff and parents.Essential Functions:
Student Management:
– Supervises attendance reporting and record keeping for all students
– Assists in the interpretation and enforcement of school policies
– Assists the counseling department to resolve student academic and behavior issues
– Communicates with staff and parents in the promotion and enforcement of student discipline policies
– Assists in supervising all school events including, but not limited to athletic contests, music concerts, dances, etc.
– Creates/Updates Curriculum Guide
– Creates Master Schedule
– Supervises record keeping of health exams and immunization reports
– Prepares and updates Student Handbook
– Supervises students in all areas of the school building and on school groundsGeneral Supervision:
– Assists in supervision and management of activities/athletics, home and away
– Works in conjunction with the principal in the implementation, administration, and evaluation of all regulations, rules, policies, and procedures governing students and staff within building as they relate to the day to day operation of the building
– Assists in evaluations of certified and non-certified staff members as assigned
– Assigns and supervises teacher supervision duties
– Supervises students in all areas of the school building and on school groundsAdditional Functions:
– Performs other such duties as may be assignedQualifications:
– Illinois General Administrative Endorsement required
– Skills in interpersonal supervision
– Previous administrative experience preferredCompetencies:

– Secondary teaching experience
– Understands the middle school child and his or her developmental needs
– Understands and advocates for the individual learning needs for all students
– Knowledgeable of best practices in high school curriculum, instruction, and assessment
– Understands professional learning communities and can apply continuous improvement processes and tools
– Knowledgeable of applicable state and federal school law
– Experienced in implementing 21st century learning skills
– Possesses excellent communication skills, especially interpersonal communication and conflict resolution
– Skilled at planning, organization, especially budgeting and facility management
– Embraces lifelong learning and serves as a model for professional development for staff
– Works well with school community, understanding balance between stakeholder requests and school resources
– Skilled facilitator and problem solver
– Skilled at making data-driven decisions
– Utilizes technologically to enhance instruction
– Student centered, visible, approachable and enthusiastic
– Clearly sets and communicates direction
– Proactive and flexible, able to make difficult decisions
– Able to establish, promote and sustain a collaborative, team-centered environment
– Serves as a guide and mentor, providing constructive feedback and capitalizing upon individual strengths
– Able to apply student discipline in a fair and balanced manner, in accordance with the student handbookWorking Conditions:
– Mental Demands: calculating, comparing, evaluation, interpreting, organizing, consulting, analyzing, planning, documenting, specifying, coordinating, implementing, and presenting
– Physical Demands: bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, reaching, sitting for prolonged periods of time, standing, walking, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, repetitive motions, talking, hearing and visual acuity
– Environmental Conditions: The work is performed primarily indoors; however, outside work is required on occasion. Travel between buildings may be a requirement
