Our people are the key to our success and each role within the group plays a key role in shaping the future.As an Assistant Professor in Hydrogen Energy working in the Centre for E-Mobility and Clean Growth (CECG)The Role:The Hydrogen Energy research theme at Coventry University focusses on addressing industrially-relevant research challenges throughout the hydrogen value chain, from hydrogen production, storage, distribution to end use in fuel cells, working in close collaboration with the other CECG research themes in PEMD, Energy Storage and Systems.Current research topics include fuel cell & electrolyser stack cost reduction and performance/efficiency improvement, novel electrolyser cell designs and chemistries, non-PGM catalyst materials, advanced diagnostics and instrumentation, advanced thermal management, hydrogen flow metrology and non-destructive testing of storage vessels.You will develop and lead independent research groups, working to contribute to the research impact agenda, producing research with a demonstrable contribution to society and the economy through activities such as developing relationships and partnerships externally. You will be teaching and supervising undergraduate & postgraduate students along with learners from industry, by being responsible for development and delivery of taught courses, including our innovative new Hydrogen Energy School short course designed to support up-skilling and re-skilling of individuals for the nascent hydrogen energy industry.Qualifications Required:PhD or equivalent industrial experience in a relevant science or engineering discipline.Our Successful Candidate:You will have an internationally-recognised research profile in line with the discipline and profile of the Centre, with an outstanding record of producing recognised research outputs.Have the ability to seek research funding and deliver research projects. Collaborate with other researchers both internally and externally to the University and have a willingness to participate in University-wide research initiatives. Undertake activities in the evening when necessary and participate in the occasional weekend activities.We seek an experienced individual with a demonstrable track record in one or more of the following areas:

  • Fuel cell or electrolyser balance-of-plant design and/or thermal management
  • Advanced diagnostic techniques, soft sensors and/or application of AI for electrochemical diagnostics
  • Hardware-in-the-loop and/or digital-twin-based simulation and modelling of fuel cells and electrolysers
  • Hydrogen distribution and energy carriers
  • Intermediate/high temperature electrolysis e.g. proton-conducting ceramic electrolysis
  • Integration of hydrogen technologies into the energy system
