As an Associate in our Credit and Transaction Management team, you will work closely with Real Estate Capital Partners (“RECP”) to support the growth of the RECP loan book and will manage a portfolio of credit relationships within the Global Credit division of RBC Capital Markets. You will also liaise with other groups within Capital Markets and the Bank to deliver a full range of credit and banking services to premier real estate owners and sponsors.
The RECP business was established as RBC’s principal commercial real estate (CRE) secured lending platform outside of Canada, originating and managing a portfolio of CRE loans on the Bank’s balance sheet.
What will you do?
You will be responsible for the administration of an assigned portfolio of borrowers in the Real Estate sector, which includes multinational and other large corporate lending relationships, and will provide additional support to several Corporate Banking teams. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Annual Reviews: Ensure Annual Reviews of existing credit relationships are completed in a timely manner and maintain a high quality of work.
- Data Integrity: Ensure credit agreement terms are correctly reflected in the Bank’s systems and that all credit documentation is accounted for and reviewed (e.g., credit agreements, amendments, waivers, security documents).
- Portfolio Transaction Management: Includes but is not limited to (i) reviewing and approving specific loan drawdown requests; coordinating with Global Loan Administration (GLA) for future funding requests and property releases; review future funding draw invoices, (ii) develop expertise in assigned portfolio, policies, and guidelines, and provide value-added advice to internal partners, (iii) ensure compliance with Bank Policy, and (iv) participate in team deliverables with respect to regulatory/audit requests.
- Real Estate Capital Partners (RECP) Support: Provide transactional support to RECP which includes but is not limited to new credits, refinancing, renewals, covenant waivers, and loan documentation review.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Work closely and maintain positive relationships with Real Estate Capital Partners (RECP), Group Risk Management (GRM), Global Markets (GM), and Global Loans Administration (GLA).
- Other Responsibilities: Completion of ad-hoc projects and other duties (including presenting to key stakeholders) efficiently and effectively to support the team’s planned and unplanned demands, collaborate with RECP partners to identify opportunities for the evolution of the role, identify issues and opportunities for optimization in the existing processes.
What do you need to succeed?
- An undergraduate degree in Business, Finance, or a related field is required.
- MBA, professional designation (e.g., CPA, CFA, CA) or a post-graduate degree with a focus on business, accounting, economics, mathematics, or other quantitative field, and relevant work experience.
- Previous banking experience or corporate lending experience with client relationship management, knowledge of structuring and writing of credit proposals, credit processes, policies, risk analysis, and legal documentation would be an asset.
- Ability to read and understand complex legal documents (e.g. loan agreements, security documents).
- Strong credit and analytical skills including the ability to critically assess financial statements and other client reports to draw reasoned conclusions and recommend a course of action.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, with strong negotiation skills and an ability to manage conflicting demands and viewpoints and multiple stakeholder expectations
- Ability to work effectively within a team environment and to interact at all levels within a large organization.
- Ability to prioritize competing work streams and perform well under pressure to meet sensitive deadlines.
- Ability to strike a balance in putting “Client First” while ensuring that internal standards are maintained, and deliverables are provided.
- Strong general PC skills (Excel, Word and PowerPoint)
