Learn more atThe Associate Director, Global Data Science is a hands-on, hybrid role of data feasibility analyst and data steward. The incumbent will conduct feasibility assessments for proposed initiatives, outlining potential challenges, costs, benefits, and timelines associated with the project. He/She will also operationalize and drive optimal usage of real-world data with stewardship responsibilities for a few datasets, primarily HealthVerity data, to ensure the quality, integrity, and usability of data.Key partnerships will be with the internal global commercial data science and real-world evidence teams for key commercial and research activities and with J&J Technology (JJT) data sciences. This individual will report to the Senior Director, Global Data, Platforms & Partnerships.Responsibilities:Data Feasibility
- Data Assessment: Evaluate existing data sources to determine their relevance, quality, and availability for specific projects. Analyze data requirements from stakeholders and assess how well current datasets meet those needs.
- Feasibility Assessment: Understand the data requirements, evaluate real world data sources, and conduct analyses to determine the feasibility of the various data sets and select the best data source to answer a key business question or a key research question.
- Collaboration: Work with the commercial data scientists to understand project goals and technical requirements. Work with stakeholders to gather input and feedback on their data needs and potential solutions.
- Risk Assessment: Identify potential risks and evaluate compliance considerations that may impact data utilization.
- Recommendations: Provide actionable recommendations based on feasibility assessments, including alternative data sources or methodologies. Present findings in clear and concise formats (e.g., presentations, reports).
- Documentation: Document findings, methodologies, and processes.
Data Stewardship
- Dataset literacy: Develop deep familiarity with the various real-world data sources that exist within the global data lake, such as HealthVerity, Optum, IBM Merative MarketScan. Understand and communicate the nuances of the dataset, what differentiates it, how and where it can be used, including different types and formats (structured vs. unstructured).
- Data Governance: Implement data governance policies and procedures to ensure compliance.
- Data Quality: Validate data quality. Identify and address discrepancies or issues in datasets. Ensure data is presented accurately and effectively.
- Metadata Management: With IT, maintain and update metadata repositories, ensuring that data definitions, data dictionaries, lineage, and relationships are well documented and accessible.
- Collaboration : Understand data needs and promote a data-driven culture, across teams.
- Communication: Partner with the vendor to deliver training and support, fostering awareness and driving utilization.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for improvements in data management practices and implement best practices to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

QualificationsRequired Skills & Experience:
- Must have 5-7 years of directly related experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
- Pharma experience is required.
- Demonstrable experience as a Data Analyst in pharma.
- Experience as a Data Steward or in a similar role.
- Proficiency in data analysis tools and programming languages -Python, SQL, PySpark, Dataiku, Databricks, AWS.
- Deep understanding and experience with real-world data, particularly EHR, EMR, and Claims data.
- Familiarity with ETL processes and tools.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and a problem-solving mindset.
- Good communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey complex information clearly.
- Ability to work independently and cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment.
Other:
- May require up to 10% domestic travel.
- The anticipated base pay range for this position is $137,000 to $235,750.
- The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis.
