As a vibrant, forward-thinking institution, Birkbeck, University of London, is offering Korean Language studies for the first time in our history, and we are thrilled to announce an opening for an Associate Lecturer in Korean Language.As Associate Lecturer for the School of Creative Arts, Culture and Communication, you will be teaching for this coming academic year from Autumn 2024.As an Associate Lecturer your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering high-quality teaching on the module: Korean 1,2 & 3 and ensuring successful completion of studies.
  • Undertaking scholarship to maintain knowledge of appropriate subject areas.
  • Undertaking all related course administrative duties as required.
  • Communicating complex information in an engaging and understandable manner, and developing our growing teaching portfolio and curricula.

The ideal candidate for the Associate Lecturer role should have:

  • A knowledge of the Korean language and teaching Korean to beginners, post-beginners and intermediate levels.
  • Effective presentation skills and the ability to lecture and lead other taught sessions clearly and effectively.
  • Formal teaching experience, preferably within HE, and an understanding of the particular needs of part-time and adult learners.
  • A minimum of an undergraduate degree or equivalent.

RemunerationStarting rate £66.70 per hour, inclusive of pro-rata London Allowance and holiday pay for contact hours worked.Payment is based on an hourly rate depending on length of service. The hourly rate is based on starting point Grade 7, and is inclusive of a ‘Duties Related to Teaching Multiplier’ which covers preparation, teaching, administration, assessment marking and other examining duties in connection with the course.Birkbeck offers a competitive salary and pension scheme, 31 days paid leave, flexible working arrangements and some of the most generous benefits in the HE sector, all while being located right in the heart of Central London.Terms and ConditionsFixed-term, part-time contract (17.5 hrs per week, teaching evenings and weekends); August 2024 – September 2025.
