Job Description
Antennas belong to the key components that empower the much-needed next generation of wireless technologies within communication, sensing and energy transfer; all areas which are expected to play a pivotal role in the continuous advancement of our wireless society. If you want to shape the contours and paths of the wireless society ahead of us and support the development of your scientific career within the broad and fascinating field of antenna techniques, this position is just the right for you.
At DTU Space we offer you an opportunity to indulge yourself into a very wide scope of cutting-edge theoretical, numerical and particularly experimental activities within the ever-changing area of antenna techniques. These will be strongly supported by our DTU Electromagnetic Test Centre (DTU-ETC) which also includes the world-class DTU European Space Agency Spherical Near-Field Antenna Test Facility for high-accuracy testing of primarily satellite antennas. We encourage you to apply if you are passionate about teaching, have strong collaboration abilities, and a versatile research profile enabling you to combine advanced theory and experiments. We offer a vibrant, welcoming and diverse environment with an international touch, encouraging creativity, empathy and teamwork, as well as superb academic and industrial collaborations.
Responsibilities and qualifications
Your overall focus will be to strengthen our research and education within the area of antenna theory and techniques in different environments and frequency bands, including the important mm-wave band. Special emphasis is placed on satellite antennas and phased arrays, which are foreseen to be in high demand in future space missions and wireless systems, and on a strong need to back the efforts by thorough experimental activities within DTU-ETC. You will work with colleagues at DTU Space, and particularly its Division for Electromagnetic Systems, as well as our national and international partners. You are expected to:
- Design and analyze satellite antennas and phased arrays for next-generation systems
- Maintain and develop EMS’s general expertise in antenna techniques, strongly supported by DTU-ETC
- Maintain and establish contacts to further develop our DTU-ETC antenna measurement capabilities
- Supervise BSc, MSc, and PhD students, as well as develop and teach related courses at all levels
- Contribute to external project applications and attract external funding
- Disseminate scientific results in highly reputed journals and conferences
For the Associate Professor position, we expect that you have a strong scientific background and all-round experience in antenna theory and techniques, electromagnetic field theory and its computational aspects, as well as a very good insight in the related antenna measurement aspects. On the teaching side, your profile displays a very good and independent ability to fulfill the required teaching duties. An ideal candidate is expected to be able to contribute to the above tasks soon after employment.
For the Assistant Professor position, we expect that you have a very good and promising profile within the same areas as outlined for the Associate Professor position, and that you will be able to start contributing to the above tasks after some training.
Regardless of the position, we expect that you are passionate about teaching and enthusiastic about your research. You are self-driven and independent but are in possession of very strong collaboration skills that will enable you to become an integral member of our division.
You must be responsible for the teaching of courses. DTU employs two working languages: Danish and English. You are expected to be fluent in at least one of these languages, and in time are expected to master both.
As formal qualification you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent). If you are applying for the associate professor position you should also have academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding an assistant professorship and documented didactic/pedagogic training.
You will be assessed against the responsibilities and qualifications stated above and the following general criteria:
- Experience and quality of teaching
- Research experience
- Research vision and potential
- International impact and experience
- Societal impact
- Innovativeness, including commercialization and collaboration with industry
- Leadership, collaboration, and interdisciplinary skills
- Communication skills
