Job SummaryJob DescriptionWhat is the opportunity?As an Associate in Global Credit, you will support the Ratings & Monitoring team with efficient and effective credit analysis and assessments of RBC’s Capital Markets clients via high quality Risk Assessment Frameworks (RAFs). Responsibilities include monitoring the financial performance of an assigned portfolio of Asset Managers, Financial Market Intermediaries, and Diversified Industrial companies on behalf of Global Credit. You will identify and escalate deteriorating situations during the ongoing monitoring of the portfolio. As Associate, you will contribute to the team and add value to the credit process.What will you do?

  • Conduct credit analysis and assessment rating reports, including providing any additional analysis as required by the Team Lead, Risk Managers, Corporate Bankers, new regulatory standards, etc.
  • Complete RAFs, including financial modeling where required to be adjudicated by Risk Managers
  • Actively follow business and financial performance of the borrowers in your portfolio through daily monitoring of financial and industry information, regulatory events, external rating agency movements, and other early warning signals
  • Assist in the timely and consistent preparation of materials to support risk rating activities, which include but are not limited to annual and interim reviews and credit comments
  • Maintain industry peer group comparisons, including research with respect to industry developments, regulatory changes and other issues as required
  • Develop thorough knowledge of the latest Criteria Papers and Policies and ongoing updates made to them
  • Completion of monthly/quarterly monitoring for all borrowers as required, and ensure compliance with terms and conditions of loan and other agreements, all on a timely basis
  • Identify deteriorating credits early and assess borrower risk; escalate when required, recommend a course of action to Loan Portfolio Management, Corporate Banking, Group Risk Management, Institutional Client and Credit Management and other partners as appropriate

What do you need to succeed?Must-have

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree (i.e. B.Comm., BSc/BA Finance, BA Economics or related subjects)
  • High degree of knowledge of financial markets and credit analysis; sound knowledge across multiple industry sectors; strong financial risk analysis and accounting skills
  • Demonstrated financial modeling and analytical skills, including ability to think critically and “outside the box” and make sound recommendations
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills; ability to deal effectively with Senior Management within Global Credit, Corporate Banking, GRM Credit and other Business Partners
  • Strong research skills, with proven ability to write clearly and concisely
  • High degree of computer literacy with high comfort level in use of word processing (Word), spreadsheet (Excel) and database software (various) and in using electronic tools for on-line research

Nice-to-have

  • Experience or general interest in the Asset Management, Financial Market Intermediaries, and Industrial segments
  • Commercial or Corporate Credit experience
  • Academic background with a master’s level accreditation: usually an MBA, CFA, CPA or other professional designation
  • Familiarity with the RBC Capital Markets credit process and loan agreements
  • Knowledge of RBC internal systems such as CCMS, TMS, Newton, etc.
