Conduct discovery and prepares motions, briefs, interrogatories, requests for admissions, and other litigation documents. Review the evidence, considers potential consequences, and recommends whether prosecution should be undertaken.– Handle varied and complex negotiations with outside parties, with a focus on criminal enforcement, including the regulated industries and services, states implementing environmental programs, other federal agencies, citizen activist groups, and the public.– Maintain outreach to headquarters in order to assure that the Region obtains legal determinations, opinion and policy advice from these Offices, and also to assure that these Offices are able to base their positions on accurate information regarding regional program operations and objectives.When entering a Federal job at a grade level lower than the highest promotion potential level, you may be promoted to more complex duties and work more independently, as your career progresses. Experience developing an attorney-client relationship with managers for whom work is performed.To qualify for the GS-13 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level defined as experience providing recommendations regarding legal research on legal matters, including enforcement matters to senior level management, with a focus on criminal enforcement. Working on matters requiring a high degree of expertise, extensive legal research which may involve multiple attorneys, and analysis of a wide variety of issues. Experience developing an attorney-client relationship with managers for whom work is performed.Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
