The opportunity
The AVP, Credit Risk and Business and Operations Internal Audit’s primary focus lead all aspects of the risk-based Audit Plan for CWB’s business and operational functions dealing with credit risk. They collaborate with departmental leadership by providing vital assistance, mentorship, thought leadership and ensuring all Internal Audit activities are carried out in accordance with the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing as well as other applicable professional standards and departmental policies! Additionally, this position is responsible for supporting senior leadership by contributing to the overall direction and strategy of CWB’s Internal Audit Department.
Areas of focus
Maintain, Update & Implement Risk-Based Audit Plan
Help to develop the risk-based Internal Audit Plan, particularly for business and operational risk areas, including partner companies.
Leas in the build out of the Credit audit schedule and lead the coordination and planning of credit audit coverage and deployment of resources including adjusting for any new and emerging risk areas.
Actively contribute towards supporting the team’s role regarding credit risk auditing in a model-enabled environment
Lead the Business & Operations Internal Audit Team Through All Credit Audit Phases on an Enterprise Basis
Identify sufficient and proficient resources and call out potential resource gaps as necessary to the appropriate channels during audit planning.
Lead and mentor staff assigned to each engagement and run all key landmarks while adhering to Internal Audit standards.
Lead and run the performance of the on-site audit work, ensure appropriate working paper evidence is maintained, and review working papers for appropriate evidence and support.
Collaborate and provide insight to help build out new frameworks as support our client partners by completing comprehensive lending audits – including ongoing assessment of credit risk models.
Client Relationship Management
Build and maintain open lines of communication with management, executives and other key partners of CWB Group’s operations, by working collaboratively and constructively.
Provide advisory services as requested, building and maintaining credibility, and seek to go above and beyond while maintaining objectivity and independence.
Work collaboratively with other internal audit teams to effectively plan and implement audits where required.
Lead by example and promoting collaboration across Internal Audit.
Liaise with IT Audit team to distinguish the risk and control environment for data, system, or other technology related considerations.
Collaborate with the Corporate Audit team to consider relevant risks and regulatory compliance requirements and controls relevant to or with impact on various business, credit and operational areas.
Work closely with Model Audit team to determine the business implications and impacts of credit risk models and any associated changes
Leadership

Core knowledge requirements and Demonstrated Experience
Undergraduate degree required or equivalent, preferably in an accounting / business / finance or related subject area.
A professional accounting designation or internal audit designation (CIA) is an asset, however, not necessarily required
Ten (10) years of dynamic experience in Banking / Internal or External Audit / Risk Management at financial institutions is crucial – preferably in FIs operating in a model-enabled environment.
Five (5) years of management experience is required.
Broad and deep experience of lending policies and practices, credit risk and banking operations is required along with experience in lending processes and controls (end to end lending cycle) – either in a Branch, Operations or Credit Risk Management role is preferred.
In-depth experience within or auditing credit and operations would be a benefit.
Shown experience coaching, training, and supervising a team
Ability to quickly comprehend the risks associated business processes and products and ability to formulate practical audit procedures to adequately monitor new risk is needed.
Experience dealing with large amounts of data and use of data analytics in audits to improve coverage, efficiency, and effectiveness.
