Behaviour Support Assistant – Primary SchoolOverviewAs a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will provide essential support to students with behavioural difficulties in a primary school setting. This role involves working closely with students, teachers, and external professionals to support their behaviour and promote a positive and safe learning environment.Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one or small group support to students with behavioural difficulties.
  • Assist in implementing behaviour management strategies as directed by the SENCO or class teacher.
  • Monitor and record student progress and behaviour patterns to inform future support plans.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and external agencies to support students’ behaviour improvement.
  • Help create and maintain a positive and safe learning environment for all students.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children or young people in an educational or care setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and patient in challenging situations.
  • Understanding of child development and behaviour management techniques.

Education and Experience:

  • GCSEs or equivalent qualifications in English and Maths.
  • Additional training or qualifications in child development or behaviour management is desirable.
  • Prior experience working with children with behavioural difficulties is preferred.
  • Experience in implementing behaviour support plans or interventions.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and child protection policies.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Good observational and reporting skills.
  • Basic IT skills for record-keeping and communication.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Level 2 or 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools.
  • Training in de-escalation techniques or positive behaviour support.

Working Conditions:

  • This is a temporary position based in a primary school in Preston, Lancashire, North West England.
  • Full-time hours are expected, with occasional flexibility required.
  • The role may involve some physical activity and the ability to respond quickly to behavioural incidents.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
