The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

Under the direction of the E-Resources Acquisitions Librarian, the Bibliographic Assistant VII is responsible for a broad range of support activities related to the acquisition, licensing, implementation, and maintenance of electronic resources at the Columbia University Libraries.

Responsibilities

  • Review, reconcile, and correct records in various e-resource tools for quality control.
  • Acquisitions and payment of e-resources in various formats such as databases, data sets, streaming media, e-books, memberships, and trials.
  • Process invoices and renewals, and create financial reports for electronic resources.
  • Contribute to developing and refining new procedures for processing electronic resources.
  • Create and track title and database records in an e-resource management knowledgebase.
  • Activate, create, and maintain accurate information for electronic resources and other complex acquisitions in the ILS, as well as in related systems, such as 360 COUNTER, 360 Link, 360 Resource Manager, Summon, EZproxy, and other utilities used in the electronic resources lifecycle.
  • Administer and maintain the e-resource management (ERM) site.
  • Participate in the maintenance of the MARC service for loading e-books and e-journal records.
  • Review, reconcile, and correct records in various e-resource tools for quality control.
  • Assist the E-Resource Librarians with the reconciliation of e-journal and e-book holdings and titles subscribed for major e-resource packages in support of renewal/cost recovery activities.
  • Document current procedures on an internal wiki site.
  • Perform other shared duties in support of the acquisition, licensing, implementation, and maintenance of electronic resources.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 2 years related experience working in an academic library, research or publishing setting, or equivalent setting
  • Proficiency with Google suite of productivity tools, including word processing, spreadsheets, Google groups, and Gmail
  • Basic knowledge of electronic resources processing and management, especially ebooks.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving, and highly collaborative environment. 
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Aptitude for learning new computer applications quickly with minimal instruction.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform tasks with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to make sound judgments and decisions.
  • Ability to juggle multiple high-priority items.
  • Strong customer service skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Basic knowledge of electronic resources processing and management, especially ebooks.
  • Knowledge of trends and developments of electronic library platforms and services.
  • Familiarity with purchased, licensed, and demand-driven acquisitions and access methods within a library setting.
  • Understanding of OpenURL linking.
  • Experience in acquisitions or serials.
