Reuters is seeking an excellent journalist to be its Canada Bureau Chief.As a G7 economy, Canada is at the table whenever global powers make key decisions, be it funding for Ukraine or imposing sanctions. Its central bank and finance ministry regularly coordinate with other key financial authorities around the world to maintain stability during times of stress, underscoring the country’s importance in the global economic order. It is also a key player in the oil market, holding the world’s fourth-biggest crude oil reserves, and the completion of a major pipeline project this year is expected to push energy companies to ramp up production.We are looking for someone to inspire and drive a strong team of almost a dozen reporters across Canada to produce agenda setting journalism, ranging from the oil industry to Canada’s acute housing shortage, from the controversy over immigration policies to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s efforts to revive his popularity ratings and win a record fourth term in office in next year’s election.The bureau chief will also coordinate with TV and Pictures team to produce strong visual stories. She or he will ensure that Reuters’ Trust Principles are strictly adhered to and protect Reuters reputation in Canada, the home of our parent company Thomson Reuters.About the Role
As Bureau Chief, Canada, you will:

  • Direct Reuters coverage of economic, business, financial, political, social and cultural news across Canada.
  • Direct and guide reporters to help them establish and maintain excellent coverage of their specific beats with a rich mix of exclusives and significant and deeply-reported stories
  • Produce agenda-setting coverage from the bureau
  • Work closely with Visuals editors and reporters for a rich news file
  • Help reporters develop their skill sets and careers
  • Represent the bureau and Reuters

About YouYou’re a fit for the role of Bureau Chief, Canada if your background includes:

  • Excellent news judgment, strong communication skills, at least 10 years of experience and a proven record of running newsrooms
  • Ability to juggle a range of stories, regularly pitch and deliver ambitious enterprise stories
  • Proven ability to build and manage a diverse newsroom
  • Ability to represent Reuters at various public forums when required.
  • Strong understanding of multimedia news planning
