Stewardship: We responsibly manage the resources entrusted to us.About the PositionThe Business Manager will manage a variety of operational, financial, and administrative tasks to ensure smooth and effective business performance as a direct mission service to social mission units. This role includes overseeing budgeting and financial analysis, supporting ministry units with contracts and leases, handling cash transfers and financial reporting, and supporting a range of internal projects.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Operational and Administrative Support:

  • Assist with fleet administration, including registration, licensing, and vehicle changes. Process applications and ensure timely updates.
  • Manage visa applications and credit limit adjustments (as requested) for the social mission ministry units.
  • Support the review and allocation of resources in the annual budget process, providing assistance as needed.
  • Attend and contribute to audit closing meetings, assisting with compliance and follow-up on action plans.
  • Support year-end automobile forms preparation and submission.

Financial Management:

  • Assist with cash flow projections and managing the same, conducting variance analysis to monitor financial health and provide summary reports to senior leadership.
  • Review key financial metrics and provide actionable insights to management at social mission units, as well as on a wider scale for the Social Mission Department as a whole.
  • Address cash transfers and work with the finance team to resolve any bank deficits promptly.
  • Support financial aspects of property projects, including project costs and associated financial schemes.

Contracts and Agreements:

  • Support the processing of operating and funding contracts and support Executive Director’s to ensure compliance with financial and business matters.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of contract terms and financial implications for ongoing and future business needs.
  • Assist with new lease agreements and renewals, focusing on financial and key business terms and addressing any issues that arise in collaboration with the Property Department’s Real Estate designate.

Property and Insurance Management:

  • Manage property tax matters and assist with appeals, as necessary.
  • Assist in process of insurance valuations and premium reviews to ensure proper coverage and cost-effectiveness.
  • Support property-related projects by working closely with internal teams to track project budgets, costs, and progress.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Completion of a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
  • Minimum of five [5] years of experience in business management, finance, or a related operational role at a management level.
  • Proven experience in financial analysis, budgeting, and cash flow management.
  • Strong knowledge of contracts, leases, and property-related financial matters.
  • Proficiency in [relevant software/tools, e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, ERP systems, project management tools].

PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:

  • Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to provide an original copy of a Background Check that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required, including Child Check (if appropriate).
  • Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Detail-oriented, with strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Ability to communicate and build relationships effectively across departments and with external stakeholders.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities as required.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment to meet tight deadlines on multiple projects.

CompensationThe target hiring range for this position is $60,363 to $75,454 with the ability to progress to a maximum of $90,545.
