Banking operations acts as the bank at the Bank of Canada. We provide banking, settlement and safekeeping services to the Government of Canada, the Bank itself as a client and a limited set of clients. Within banking operations, the Business Solutions and Support (BSAS) team is responsible for setting the vision and planning the evolution of the business processes in alignment with changes from other business lines. In consultation with stakeholders and system users, we set the direction on how processes and systems need to change to ensure safe, efficient, and harmonized operations.

What you will do
As a Business System Architect you establish the structure for the business systems, define the essential core design features, data characteristics and integration flows, elements and framework required for the creation and the continuous improvement of existing business systems architecture. You also perform business to system knowledge management and when required, provide business/data authority, advice, and guidance to system development initiatives.
In addition, you will:
- Recommend effective and efficient solutions by researching/analyzing current state system capabilities and defining technology solutions options/recommendations by working closely with key technology partners (e.g., Solutions Architects), breaking down business requirements and repackaging them into detailed design specifications and solution options.
- Work closely with the other Business System Architects to evolve and improve holistically the changes required.
- Provide leadership in system initiatives by providing authoritative advice and guidance in all phases of the development methodology cycle to ensure successful deployment of the appropriate business solution.
- Work independently and coach/guide members within area of expertise
What you need to succeed
You have advanced to expert knowledge in:
- system analysis process and techniques
- systems and applications supported by the team including system components, functionality, interfaces, data flows, and business rules
- understanding of business supported, particularly related to payments, securities settlement, and collateral operations/systems.
- data management tasks (data governance, data stewardship, data quality management)
- implementation of data related solutions (data warehouse, business intelligence solutions, master data management solutions)
You have experience in:
- writing and managing requirements for systems involving user workflow and rule-based processing with elaborated user interface and interaction
- business continuity, disaster recovery, problem root cause analysis
You have strong leadership and change management skills, analytical and negiotiation skills as well as communication skills both orally and in writing.
Nice-to-have
Knowledge or understanding of:
- payment systems, securities settlement systems, and collateral management systems as well as the Bank’s High availability banking system (HABS)
- business processes related to the front, middle and back office
Experience in:
- leading business initiatives and contributing to ITS-enabled business projects and programs
- delivering programs within an Agile framework
Your education and experience
This position requires a Bachelor’s in Business Administration, Computer Science or related field and a minimum of 7 years of pertinent experience in business architecture and analysis for large and complex systems, development of systems strategy and roadmaps, business requirements, systems design. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

- Language requirement: English and French essential (bilingual) with a minimum starting level of functional (level 4) in second official language. Training may be provided to help reach the required level of fully functional (level 5) in second official language.

- Security level required: Be eligible to obtain Secret

- Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $101,325 to $126,660 (job grade 18)
- The Bank offers an incentive for successfully meeting expectations at 7 to 10% of your base salary. The Bank offers performance pay for those who exceed expectations (15% of your base salary).. Exceptional performers who far exceed expectations may be eligible for higher performance pay.
