As a Calibration Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. As part of a small team of calibration specialists, you will be required to carry out and validate the calibration of electrical inspection and measurement equipment for our principal customer.Day-to-day, you’ll demonstrate efficient and effective management of measurement equipment and measuring processes across the diverse range of company activities, thereby underpinning the overall quality of company output, and significantly contributing to overall product safety.
- To undertake the calibration, and repair of a broad range of general purpose test and measurement equipment to include items ranging from 3 phase Switch Board instrumentation including EHT measurement to 50kV, through to specialist RF and microwave equipment calibration arising from both the Dockyard and Fleet Support work streams.
- To complete Calibration Certificates and or reports for work undertaken.
- To undertake the Portable Appliance Testing of client owned and Calibration Facility Test and Measurement and Supporting Equipment.
- To both support and demonstrate the Electrical Calibration Centre’s compliance to BS EN ISO 17025, as accredited via United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) and general compliance with BS EN 10012.
- Will be expected to work towards becoming a UKAS recognised signatory for the field of DC/LF (e.g. typically covering parameters of Voltage/Current/Resistance and its associated Measurement/Generation) or RF and µwave measurement (e.g. typically covering parameters such as, RF attenuation, voltage reflection coefficient, RF power and RF calibration factor as associated with operating frequencies of up to 20GHz).
This role is full time 35, hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.Essential experience of the Calibration Engineer
- Demonstrable experience working with a broad range of electronic test equipment including but not limited to RF and µwave test and reference measurement equipment, as well as experience in electrical/electronic fault diagnosis and repair.
- A good working knowledge of Fluke METTEAM or a similar software utility, to control test instrumentation and collect data via the IEEE488 interface bus, is desirable although training can be provided.
- A good eye for detail with experience in high accuracy measurement practices working within a quality driven environment, delivering excellent customer service.
- Familiarity with the requirements of BS EN ISO 17025 and subsequent accreditation as accessed by UKAS.
- Experience of the development and maintenance of supporting documentation, such as calibration procedures, measurement profiles, and Excel based uncertainty budgets, as applicable to the various fields of electrical measurement would be advantageous.
Qualifications for the Calibration Engineer
- NVQ Level 4 or equivalent recognised professional status, or significant experience in relevant engineering discipline preferably have completed a recognised apprenticeship in an associated discipline.
- C&G 2377-2, In-Service Inspection & Testing of Electrical Equipment, or similar qualification – Desirable.
