Position Overview

Work independently and as a team member providing person centered support assisting clients to achieve self-sufficiency through the delivery of financial, stability and employment supports in accordance with the mandate of the Ontario Works Act, 1997 and other relevant legislation as well as Lambton County policy and directives.

Duties and Responsibilities

Knowledge:

  • Assess eligibility for ongoing financial assistance and benefits following provincial and local policy.
  • Obtain appropriate information/documentation and complete any required forms.
  • Make referrals to community resources that support people to meet needs and reach stability and employment goals.

Technology:

  • Use of the provincial database as well as other relevant technologies to complete daily responsibilities.

Communication:

  • Clearly explain necessary program requirements and responsibilities.
  • Use communication skills to establish collaborative relationships and support individuals through sensitive issues i.e., mental health, homelessness, and addictions.

Qualifications

Minimum Formal Education

  • Completion of a minimum of 1 year of university in a relevant social science program or a mixture of the completion of 1 year of a community college Social Service Worker program with relevant work and/or placement experience.

Experience

  • Work and/or volunteer experience in a social service setting preferred.

Summer Student positions with the County of Lambton may be dependent on funding and the funding criteria, which specifies that students must:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age
  • Registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year and returning to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year
  • Canadian citizens, permanent residents or have refugee protection status under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Will not have another full-time job
