Chief Executive OfficerJob DescriptionIntroductionDue to the impending retirement of the long-standing Chief Executive Officer Kim Conchie who will become non-executive president, Cornwall Chamber of Commerce Ltd, a company limited by guarantee and registered in Cornwall, is seeking a dynamic person to lead the organisation to its next stage of development, during an exciting period as Cornish businesses continue to take centre stage on a regional and national basis. The role will probably be part time (to be discussed) with flexibility dependant on the demands of the position which offers huge variety from week to week. Role OverviewChief Executive Officer (CEO) Purpose: The CEO will be accountable for the overall success of the business, driving partnerships and commercial relationships across Cornwall & The Isles of Scilly and the international British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) network. The CEO is expected to be a strategist and leader who is able to steer Cornwall Chamber of Commerce to deliver a healthy surplus while implementing its vision, mission and long-term goals. The Chief Executive Officer role at Cornwall Chamber of Commerce is a high-profile leadership role with a brief to promote commercial and business development and champion the private sector across The Duchy. The successful candidate must be able to establish partnerships, secure funding where possible and extend influence across the United Kingdom. The postholder will be a highly visible individual who has experience and credibility at Board level. Chief Executive Officer Responsibilities: Directing the activities of the business while ensuring bottom-line profitability Providing strategic advice to the board of directors, plan cost-effective business strategies and develop new ideas based on market and industry opportunities Establishing Cornwall Chamber of Commerce direction, aligned with the board and stakeholder goals and expectations Implementing the policies and purpose of a BCC accredited Chamber of Commerce and making sure that they are adhered to, ensuring progress while maintaining compliance and setting policies relevant to local circumstances Establishing best practice in all respects to ensure events, marketing and business activity are of the highest quality and generate budgeted revenue targets Delegating duties to appropriate people within the business Developing reporting tools to monitor the ongoing performance of Cornwall Chamber of Commerce against agreed targets and aspirations Communicating Cornwall Chamber of Commerce reports and achievements to the team, board, stakeholders, members and business partners Serving as the public face of the Cornwall Chamber of Commerce Maintaining and monitoring budgets to make sure that the business operates efficiently from a financial perspective Guiding and developing the performance of the Cornwall Chamber of Commerce in membership numbers, sponsorship, identifying other revenue opportunities and maintaining public sector contracts Supervising executives and managers, ensuring a strong and engaging team culture and providing leadership and motivation to all colleagues, freelancers and agents while maintaining GDPR, policies and BCC compliance Establishing relationships with industry, marketing, academic, public sector and voluntary sector experts, providing thought leadership and building the Cornwall Chamber of Commerce public profile through the media, networking, conferences, and speaking engagements. Responsibility for reputation management Leading appropriate market research and analysing our CRM data in order to make informed strategic decisions Preparing long-term and short-term goals and setting Cornwall Chamber of Commerce objectives Leading the Chamber strategy for development of members, potential members, exporters and public sector clients Monitoring and updating the export document service agreement with Devon Chamber of Commerce Analysing problematic situations and occurrences, internally and with third parties, and providing solutions to ensure Cornwall Chamber of Commerce survival and growth Defining operational goals and making sure that the organisation works towards achieving them – do we need this – implied in all the above? Liaising with the Chair and non-executive Board to ensure a consistent approach to running and positioning the organisation Skills and QualificationsThe skills and qualifications that a Chief Executive Officer is expected to have include: Masters or Degree educated or relevant industry qualifications Proven ability to lead Business leadership experience Highly developed organisational and analytical skills, with the appetite to make critical decisions Excellent analytical skills that can be used when making critical decisions Demonstrable media and presentation skills A high level of proven project management ability An in-depth understanding of HR, productivity management and how to implement change to improve productivity levels Significant experience in the area of business development and marketing Highly developed level of strategic thinking that has been proven in a business environment Evidence of your passion for business, people and Cornwall’s prosperity Terms and ConditionsA salary of £50,000 – £60,000 pro rata. Subject to a 6-month probation period, this post is for a permanent position. Private Health Care plan included with Westfield Health, covering Dental, Optical and other treatments.
