ABOUT NEW CITY KIDS
New City Kids is a high energy, creative program for and with youth that is unique in trusting teens with leadership. It is a joyful place filled with laughter and hard work, and has an excellent staff of dedicated adults who love children. We employ local high school students as interns to lead an excellent and unique music-focused after school center and summer camp for children ages 6-13, which provides a platform for a whole host of development opportunities for children. As kids and teens engage New City Kids, we come alongside them and invite them to know the power of the gospel and to become disciples of Jesus Christ.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Chief Financial Officer will oversee all aspects of financial management for New City Kids, including staff oversight, accounting, regulatory and financial reporting, grant budgeting and supporting accounting functions, budget and forecasts preparation, as well as development of internal control policies and financial procedures. This role is responsible for defining and implementing the infrastructure/systems needed to support substantial growth over the next five to ten years.
As a member of the senior management team, the CFO will be involved in strategic planning, evaluation, and professional development initiatives, as well as planning for New City Kids expansion to multiple new sites both locally and in other cities.

SCOPE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Participate in the National Executive Leadership Team and contribute to high level strategy discussions for New City Kids development
Devise & implement internal controls strategy as it relates to restricted and unrestricted grants
Oversee all accounting operations including staff responsible for Billing, A/R, A/P, GL, Cost Accounting, and Revenue Recognition
Oversee and lead annual budgeting and planning process in conjunction with business unit leadership; monitor progress and keep senior leadership team abreast of the organization’s financial status
Oversee the preparation and publishing of timely monthly financial statements
Conduct strategic evaluation of finance function and build in continuous improvement system
Using New CIty Kids policy design framework, work with executive leadership to set financial policy that supports alignment of best practices and growth
Complete financial forecasts and Budget versus Actual variance analysis
Coordinate and support the preparation of regulatory reporting, including annual audit and 990 preparation
Ensure compliance for all accounting and grant related processes
Guide month-end and year-end close process
Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting
Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings

QUALIFICATIONS
You’re a great candidate for this role if you have:
A strong commitment and ability to communicate the goals and mission of New City Kids, including a personal and active Christian commitment, and strong alignment with our statement of faith and diversity, equity and inclusion policy
Have experience in a complex, non-profit organization
Have experience in helping guide and grow the finance function of a non profit moving from $5M-$10M
Demonstrated command of nonprofit fund accounting and GAAP compliance
Ability to mine for conflict and engage in healthy conflict while seeking to understand various stakeholders within the New City Kids world
Strong emotional maturity and high level of emotional intelligence
Thrives in a fast-paced, highly-relational environment
Ability to think strategically
Ability to navigate through systems changes and change management
Degree in Accounting, Master’s degree preferred
Experience with creating financial statements and analysis
Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year end close process, including an annual audit
Strong written and oral communication and presentation skills, with proven discretion with confidential information
Experience working with enterprise level accounting software
You’re an exceptional candidate for this role if you have:
Active CMA or CPA license
7+ years of overall combined accounting and finance experience
Experience working with Sage Intacct

This position is required to work in one of our onsite offices in Grand Rapids or Detroit, MI.

Expected salary

$120000 – 140000 per year
