Brucejack is a fly-in/fly-out operation with pick-up points across Western Canada, making it easy for people from different places to join us. The committee also plans holiday decorations, charity raffles, and outdoor events, helping create a warm and friendly community.PurposeThe Chief Mine Engineer’s primary responsibility is to assist the Technical Services Manager in leading the Technical Services Department for all mine engineering and surveying personnel while directing the delivery & development of short & mid-term mine plans, designs and performance targets to effectively support production and maximize the value of the resource.Essential Duties

  • Lead the engineering teams & provide technical advice and support on underground mine planning to include short & medium term production planning, drill and blast, surveying and mine services (dewatering, ventilation etc.)
  • Develop a high-performance team by providing training, coaching and mentoring.
  • Oversee and monitor field contractors and ensure that environmental and occupational health and safety legislation, regulations, policies, standards and operating procedures are compliant.
  • Develop and optimize technical standards to maximize safe production.
  • Works with all site departments to ensure timely resources are planned to support mine production and development.
  • Optimizes the mine design to maximize business profit.
  • Consults, collaborates and engages key contractors and stakeholders in operational objectives as deemed appropriate while developing positive and proactive relationships to ensure seamless and efficient mine operations.
  • Support, leadership and encouragement to the technical services teams ensuring a safe, productive and positive workplace environment
  • Prepare final engineering reports and recommendations with respect to design, development and implementation of projects such as water and power supply/distribution, ventilation and drainage control.
  • Conduct other activities to support the safe, efficient and successful development of the Brucejack Mine
  • Understand and ensure compliance with Newmont’s safety policies and governmental safety regulations including Ministry of Mines and WorksafeBC.
  • Other duties as required

Training & Experience

  • Degree in Engineering with a minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible mine engineering and management experience combined with in-depth knowledge of underground mine production methods, techniques & designs. Registration as a P.Eng with EGBC (or eligible to register as a P.Eng in the Province of British Columbia).
  • Excellent time management, problem solving, analytical & decision-making skills.
  • Strong organizational & supervisory skills.
  • Ability to direct and work cooperatively with mining contractor teams.
  • Advanced mining and administrative computer/software skills
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills (English)
  • Knowledge of workplace safety requirements and procedures
  • Excellent knowledge of Federal and Provincial mining & safety legislation and regulations.

Working Conditions

  • Work at remote location (camp) on a 13 days on/13 days off rotation, and 2 travel days
  • Able to pass a pre-employment medical screening
  • Must be able to lift/move up to 50lbs throughout a work shift
  • Be able maintain high levels of performance over 12 hour shifts
  • Able to work in areas of extreme weather conditions
  • Able to work in close quarters with the team

This range is tied to the British Columbia market for jobs performed in British Columbia. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience.
