The position
The position of Clinical Dean, Manning Clinical School is responsible for ensuring that all teaching and supervision delivered and provided through the school is in line with the learning outcomes of the Joint Medical Program (JMP). The position is also responsible for the professional behaviour and performance of the Rural Clinical School (RC) staff and students.
The Clinical Dean will hold a leadership role in the cultivation of quality research and its supervision, contributing both to the education of student and locally based medical practitioners. The role also holds a leadership role within the JMP ensuring that rural practice, learning and support of rural students is considered in all planning and delivery.

The position is based at the Clinical School at Manning Base Hospital in Taree NSW. There are strong links with academic educators and clinical colleagues at other campuses including the Central Coast Clinical School, the School of Medicine and Public Health, located at John Hunter Hospital and the University of New England. There are also numerous opportunities for collaboration with research centres and research programs run through the University, the Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI) and the Central Coast Clinical School and Research Institute (CCCSRI).

About the Department of Rural Health
The University of Newcastle’s Department of Rural Health (UONDRH) delivers a number of programs aimed at improving the health and wellbeing of regional, rural, and Indigenous communities within the New England, Northwest Slopes and Plains, Mid North Coast and areas of the Hunter Valley and Manning Rivers regions.
Through a variety of programs, the UONDRH has made it possible for undergraduate and postgraduate students studying medicine, nursing, and allied health disciplines at the University of Newcastle & through the Joint Medical Program (JMP) to complete a large part of their education and training in a rural setting at one of six locations – Tamworth, Armidale, Coffs Harbour, Port Macquarie, Taree, or Moree.
