Applicants are invited to join the General Surgery Department at Whipps Cross University Hospital, part of Barts Health NHS Trust.We are seeking to appoint a clinical fellow ST1/ST2 to join our friendly department, based in an associate teaching hospital which is dedicated to teaching and training. This post is also suitable for GP trainees who would like more exposure to surgical conditionsThe successful candidate will be working alongside the surgical team, assessing all general surgery admissions with one of the General Surgical firms responsible for both inpatient elective and emergency work.You are encouraged to visit the Hospital. Further information will be available fromMs Fiona Taylor (Clinical Lead), e-mail: [email protected] Tel.02085395522 ext 6179Main duties of the jobClinical Governance & AuditThere is a robust clinical governance programme with a monthly morbidity and mortality meeting in general surgery. The post-holders are also expected partake in at least one audit project related to either general surgery. There is excellent support for this through the audit unit.Study, Training and TeachingAppointees will be expected to have completed foundation year training and embarked on or have passed the MRCS (or equivalent) examination, or to have at least completed the training requirements for the same. These posts DO NOT carry Deanery accreditation for the purposes of Surgical Training, though it is expected that they will provide training that will be of value to trainee surgeons.ResearchExtensive research facilities exist at Barts Health NHS Trust and research will be actively encouraged within the department and in conjunction with other departments of the hospital where there is a wide range of research activity. Job responsibilitiesThe rotas are EWTD compliant (48 hrs)Barts Health NHS Trust reserves the right to change the parameters of theStandard working week, the number of hours additional duty you are required to undertake and the area in which you are required to undertake it, in the light of the requirements of the service. Barts Health NHS Trust will endeavour to give as much advance notice as possible of such change. In the event of a change in the number of additional duty hours you are required to undertake your pay will be adjusted appropriately.You may be required to provide on-call cover and take for patients throughout Barts Health NHS Trust, including cross district, inter-directorate, and Barts Health NHS Trust reserves the right to change cover requirements in accordance with the needs of the service.Person Specification
