Are you passionate about leadership and staff professional development ?We are looking for an experienced and dynamic Research Matron to join our growing and diverse research delivery service at St George’s.You will be responsible for the oversight of multiple research teams in the Trust spanning diverse medical specialities such as Genetics, Renal and Maternity research amongst others and for the growth in research recruitment, academic and commercial trial portfolios and staff development in these areas.This is a senior post within the Trust’s Research Nursing & Midwifery structure, with a high level of autonomy and freedom to act and your role will be pivotal in creating a safe, welcoming environment for patients participating in clinical research.Main duties of the jobThe post holder will provide professional nursing leadership and management for clinical research teams comprising research nurses and clinical research administration staff working on clinicaltrials across the Trust.They will assist the Head of Research Nursing in ensuring the safe andethical implementation of clinical research studies in accordance with Trust policies, International Conference on Harmonisation of Good Clinical Practice, EU Clinical Trials Directives and Research Governance Framework.The post holder will ensure a quality, customer focused service to all trial participants based on expert practice and act as a role model, working within clinical research, to facilitate the aims of the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) at a local level.About usSt George’s, Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals and Health Group cares for a population of four million people in South West London and North East Surrey.Our sites include St George’s Hospital, one of 11 major trauma centres in the UK and the largest healthcare provider and major teaching hospital in the area; St Helier Hospital, home to the South West Thames Renal and Transplantation Unit and Queen Mary’s Hospital for Children; and Epsom Hospital, home to the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SWLEOC).After years of collaboration, our two Trusts became a hospitals group in 2021.   • Registered General Nurse, Registered Midwife or Registered Children’s Nurses
  • Degree in nursing/health related or working towards it. Evidence of recent continuing education.
  • GCP training
  • Management and leadership Training
  • Educated to Masters Level or substantial equivalent experience
  • Post registration teaching qualification or relevant experience

  • Management qualification

ExperienceEssential

  • Significant experience of clinical research within various NHS settings and specialities at Band 7 or above
  • Substantial experience of managing a team and able to deal with staff performance issues
  • Extensive knowledge of national policy, standards and frameworks related to healthcare and clinical research including Early phase trials
  • Experience of collaborating with external stakeholders/agencies
  • Experience of teaching/delivering specialist training
  • Experience of a variety of software to create reports, analyse and manoeuvre data

  • Change management experience
  • Working across multiple research specialities

  • Expert knowledge of and experience in the planning coordination and conduct of clinical trials including Early Phase trials
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong influencing skills, with the demonstrable ability to influence at all levels internal and external to the organisation
  • Ability to monitor the quality of work in others, to identify their learning and development needs, devising strategies to resolve.

KnoiwledgeEssential

  • Highly developed knowledge and understanding of clinical trials and familiarity with the issues surrounding clinical data, particularly confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of the National Research agenda and national research organisations
  • Knowledge and experience of handling complex relationships
  • Knowledge and application of HR procedures.
