Mission and objectives
The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme is the UN organization that supports human development globally by promoting volunteerism and by mobilizing volunteers. It is administered by UNDP and operates amidst growing recognition that volunteerism makes important contributions, economically and socially, to more cohesive societies by building trust and reciprocity among citizens.UNV Regional Office for the Arab States (ROAS) provides oversight and strategic guidance to the UNV Field Units in their respective geographical assignments and is mainly accountable for the placement of UN Volunteers mobilized for UN Agencies, Funds, and Programmes focused on peace, development and humanitarian needs. Furthermore, ROAS represents and strategically positions UNV in the region, bringing UNV’s services and solutions closer to its partners from governments, UN entities, civil society, and the private sector. The Regional Office also leads to scoping and delivering UNV’s advisory service offer on volunteer infrastructure.

Context
This assignment is going to inform and support partnerships building and portfolio management at UNV’s Regional Office for Arab States.
The objective is to strategically gather information on UNV’s key partners in order to identify areas for collaboration in 2024 and in order to align outreach to partners with their specific priorities, budgetary and HR frameworks.
This support is an essential contribution to the deployment of volunteers to UN partners in the Arab region.

Task description
This assignment is going to inform and support partnerships building and portfolio management at UNV’s Regional Office for Arab States.
The objective is to strategically gather information on UNV’s key partners in order to identify areas for collaboration in 2024 and in order to align outreach to partners with their specific priorities, budgetary and HR frameworks.
This support is an essential contribution to the deployment of volunteers to UN partners in the Arab region.

For the collection of data on UN organizations’ strategies and priorities in Arab countries for 2024, we seek support from 14 Online Volunteers, who under the guidance of ROAS’s Programme Analyst will:

– Discuss data collection methodology and identify a methodology for data collection (per UN agency)
– Screen for data sources
– Conduct data collection using defined methodology and tools from selected sources
– Prepare document capturing findings

The Online Volunteers will have the opportunity to learn about the ways in which data can support programme development and building partnerships, get insights into outreach and partnerships, strategic collaboration between UN agencies.

Requirements
Required experience
Candidates should have experience in conducting qualitative data collection.
Candidates should have in-depth understanding of UN organizations’ role in provision of humanitarian assistance and development cooperation.
Candidates should have in-depth understanding of concepts, discourse, trends in the fields of humanitarian assistance and development cooperation.
Candidates should be familiar with concepts such as the HDP-Nexus, anticipatory action, localisation/localized humanitarian assistance, social cohesion.

Professional level of verbal and written English is required. Knowledge of Arabic and/or French is an asset.
