Manchester Museum holds around 4.5 million objects and specimens, spanning Archaeology to Zoology and this new role will help make them more accessible and discoverable. Following on from our physical transformation into a more inclusive, imaginative and caring museum, we are threading these same values through our digital collections work and opening up what we have in store, beginning with a new online Collections Search launching this Autumn.You’ll support ongoing enhancements to our collections data in the EMu collections management system, making proficiency with imaging and databases is essential. You’ll also work with the Collections Information Manager and Collections team to deliver our Transforming Digital Access programme (supported by the Foyle Foundation), demonstrating a values-driven approach to collections digitisation and digital engagement through a set of pilot projects. So we’re looking for a good understanding of digital inclusion, exclusion and participation.Manchester Museum is proud to be part of the University of Manchester and you’ll help supervise the use of collections in our Research Studio for academic research and teaching as well as for our wider volunteering and engagement work. For this you’ll need both object handling and collections care experience and strong communication and administrative skills.
