The JUNO BEACH CENTRE ASSOCIATION (JBCA) is seeking an innovative and results-oriented Community & Fund Development Manager to lead our fundraising and stakeholder engagement efforts. You could play a pivotal role in ensuring the long-term sustainability of one of Canada’s foremost national heritage institutions while growing a network of engaged supporters across Canada and France.

  • Salary: $70,000 to 80,000 per annum commensurate with experience and qualifications (candidates with English-French bilingual proficiency may be eligible for the upper range of the salary scale)
  • Primary work location: Remote work, anywhere in Canada

THE ORGANIZATIONThe Juno Beach Centre Association is a registered charity that owns and operates the Juno Beach Centre (JBC), Canada’s privately-owned Second World War museum and education centre. The Juno Beach Centre is located on the beaches of the Normandy Landings in France, where Allied Forces began the liberation of Europe from Nazi rule on June 6th, 1944. The core purpose of the Association includes: * Remembering and commemorating the sacrifices made by all Canadians who were part of the Allied victory in all theatres of war and at home during the Second World War.

  • Educating adults and children of today and future generations about the role of Canada and Canadians in preserving the freedoms we are privileged to enjoy in the Second World War.

The Association’s mandate in Canada is to build awareness domestically of Canada’s role in the Second World War, to create awareness and attract more Canadian visitors to the JBC, and to develop an environment of support for fundraising initiatives that will secure the future of the JBC as an essential destination for Canadian pilgrimage and remembrance. The JBCA is tasked with developing effective awareness and communications campaigns about the significance and pertinence of this heritage in our modern-day Canada.WHAT WE OFFER

THE POSITIONReporting to the Executive Director, the Community & Fund Development Manager will focus on growing revenue streams through foundations, corporate sponsors, high-net-worth individuals, government grants, and grassroots donors in both Canada and France, with a special emphasis on legacy giving. By leveraging advanced technologies and data-driven strategies, the Community & Fund Development Manager will maximize donor engagement, streamline operations, and ensure long-term financial sustainability for the Centre’s mission of preserving Canada’s Second World War legacy.The successful candidate will help the JBCA develop and cultivate the communities required to support our fundraising objectives and vision for the Centre. These communities include but are not limited to: visitors to the JBC; travel companies; donors; governments and officials; our student guide, teacher, and student pilgrimage alumni; like-minded organizations in the heritage and remembrance sector (e.g. the Royal Canadian Legion); descendants of Canadian Second World War Veterans; modern Veterans; people passionate about Canada and/or Canadian military history; supporters from the 2022 Save Juno Beach Campaign; and the Friends of the Juno Beach Centre (France).In terms of fund development and donor segmentation, the successful candidate will:

  • Grassroots Donors ($5–$500): Develop campaigns to attract, retain, and grow small-scale donor support through storytelling and membership drives. Use automated workflows and CRM tools to engage and re-engage lapsed donors
  • Corporate Donors ($5,000–$50,000): Create sponsorship packages tailored to corporate social responsibility priorities. Build partnerships with Canadian and French businesses, offering branding, event visibility, and co-marketing opportunities.
  • Foundations and High-Net-Worth Individuals: Research and cultivate relationships with philanthropic foundations and high-net-worth individuals with personal or family connections to the Second World War. Develop and present tailored proposals for major gifts and multi-year funding
  • Government and NGO Grants: Identify grant opportunities aligned with the Centre’s goals, ensuring applications meet funder priorities and deadlines. Manage reporting requirements to maintain strong relationships with funders
  • Legacy Giving Program: Create and launch a legacy giving program to encourage donors to include the Juno Beach Centre in their wills and estates. Design educational materials and host workshops/webinars to inform donors about legacy gift options

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE COMMUNITY & FUND DEVELOPMENT MANAGERDONOR ENGAGEMENT & STEWARDSHIP

  • Build and grow grassroots donor pipelines through creative campaigns and membership programs
  • Develop and implement a legacy giving program to encourage estate donations, including donor education and outreach initiatives
  • Cultivate relationships with major donors, presenting tailored opportunities for transformational gifts

CORPORATE & INSTITUTIONAL PARTNERSHIPS

  • Develop corporate sponsorship packages aligned with social responsibility priorities
  • Secure partnerships with Canadian and French businesses, offering branding and co-marketing opportunities
  • Research and apply for funding from philanthropic foundations and grant programs

GRANT WRITING & GOVERNMENT FUNDING

  • Identify and apply for grants from government entities and cultural organizations
  • Ensure compliance with grant reporting requirements to maintain strong relationships with funders

TECHNOLOGY & COMMUNITY BUILDING

  • Leverage CRM tools and AI-driven analytics to enhance donor research and campaign optimization
  • Manage online communities and content-driven campaigns to engage grassroots donors and members
  • Oversee the growth and strategy of the JBCA’s online boutique

EVENT PLANNING & OUTREACH

  • Plan and execute donor-focused events, ensuring strong engagement and stewardship.
  • Work with communications staff in Canada and France to develop outreach campaigns and align messaging
  • Provide resources and strategies to empower the Board of Directors and executive team in their fundraising efforts

PERFORMANCE TRACKING & REPORTING

  • Track key performance metrics and provide regular progress updates to stakeholders
  • Maintain and analyze donor segmentation data to enhance engagement strategies

OTHER

  • Willing to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends
  • Manage a team of staff, volunteers, and other third-party stakeholders as necessary
  • Attend and participate in meetings and committee work and organization events as requested
  • Liaise with graphic designers, media agencies, software providers, and other vendors in support of our community building and fund development efforts
  • Undertake any secondary tasking and responsibilities deemed necessary for the efficient operation of the agency and its programs and services

SAMPLE DUTIES IN A MONTH

  • Draft and submit a grant proposal to a Canadian foundation and research potential French cultural grants
  • Meet with a corporate sponsor to present a partnership proposal offering branding opportunities for an upcoming exhibit
  • Use CRM analytics to identify high-potential donors for a personalized giving campaign
  • Host an exclusive virtual event for Patrons, showcasing behind-the-scenes work on a new exhibit
  • Develop an automated email sequence to re-engage lapsed donors and invite them to join a new membership program
