North Somerset Library Service is looking for enthusiastic, hard-working and flexible people to work as part of our Pool staff team.About the roleThis is a varied role with shifts in any of our 12 library service points in North Somerset including the mobile library. You will be on the front line in our libraries, assisting customers to access library and council services as well as carrying out a range of administrative tasks as required.This is a zero hours contract with no guaranteed hours. However, numerous shifts are usually available across North Somerset with some of our team working over 100 hours per month. You will be covering annual leave, sickness and other staff shortages, making a real difference in the running of our service. Shifts are generally known a month ahead, but there are also many opportunities for short-notice work. No previous library experience is needed as full training will be given, but previous experience of working with the public is an advantage.This position is exempt under the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions) Order 1975 and is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.A driving licence is not essential for this role; however you will need to have the ability to travel to any of our library service points across North Somerset as required.About youYou will have a keen interest in books and technology, with the ability to engage with adults and children and customers from a range of backgrounds. Flexibility is essential, and you will be able to adapt to work in different locations and in different teams. You will have experience of working with computers and technology and ability to use databases, the Internet, e-mail and software packages including Microsoft Office. You will also have Awareness and general understanding of the service area technical protocols, regulations and relevant legislation to include information sharing, health & safety, confidentiality and data protection, information governance.Why North Somerset Council?We understand working for a local authority is more than just a job.
