Are you an experienced Computational Materials Scientist looking for a new challenge? Are you interested in using computational tools to complement laboratory experiments and field observations? Our Computational Techniques branch is looking for an expert in phase-field mesoscale materials modelling. You will be providing mesoscale insight and support on a variety of topics on advanced material design for current and advanced reactor concepts. Example topics include microstructural evolution during manufacture and irradiation, corrosion, and precipitation of inclusions. Does this appeal to you? - Developing and maintaining models and or software to meet clients needs
- Performing analyses using models/software to meet clients needs
- Task leading/ Principal Investigator as required
- Preparing reports or manuscripts for external publications
- Delivering technical presentations for internal and external audiences
- Other duties as assigned by your manager.
What we are looking for:
- Education
- At minimum, a Bachelors (Honours) in Engineering or Science from a university of recognized standing, or membership in an engineering or scientific professional organization authorized by statute to establish qualification for membership in that organization.
- Experience
- Have at least 2 years of experience in the field of Engineering or Science with an established publication history.
- Experience in the development and/or use of computer-based models, or simulation software, in one of the technical areas (machine learning, data analytics, applied mathematics, statistics, density functional theory, molecular dynamics, or fuel or material performance.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong communication, problem solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work individually, or as a member of a team.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
- Ability to prepare detailed technical reports, presentations, and manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed industry/academic journals.
- General knowledge of nuclear industry and nuclear power systems.
- Ability to apply one or more technical specialties listed above to support nuclear technology science and technology research and development activities.
- Security Clearance Eligibility Required
- Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat’s “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”

Location:CNL works with employees across our Canadian locations to enable remote work when possible. This role requires regular work at CNL’s Chalk River Laboratory site while also permitting the employee to spend the majority of their time working remotely, should they so desire. CNL employees who choose to work remotely the majority of the time are provided with the equipment required to be successful at their remote workplace (laptop, chair, monitor, etc.); however, they are not provided a dedicated onsite office.
