UNICEF has over 12,000 staff in more than 145 countries.BACKGROUNDPurpose of Activity/Assignment:One of the primary activities undertaken by the Data and Analytics Section (D&A) is compiling data and conducting statistical analyses for global monitoring and reporting. UNICEF’s work in the area of data analysis highlights trends and emphasizes patterns found within the data and suggests how these data can be used strategically to inform evidence-based policy and programmatic efforts. The results of UNICEF’s data analysis work appear in its flagship publications as well as data-driven thematic reports, articles, brochures, documents, and other dissemination materials.The purpose of this consultancy is to provide graphic design support for a variety of data products for the Child Protection and Development team.Scope of Work:More specifically, the designer will support the production of a number of data-driven publications and dissemination products. The designer will be responsible for the conceptualization, design, layout, picture selection and typesetting of the publications, and for ensuring broad alignment of the products with UNICEF design standards and branding. Since most of the products will be data-driven with a number of graphs, maps and figures, the designer will need to produce creative and visually appealing final products.Terms of Reference / DeliverablesIn close collaboration and working with the UNICEF Senior Advisor for Child Protection, the incumbent is responsible for the following deliverables:Deliverable 1:Conceptualization and graphic design and layout of a data publication on child protection in Thailand (58 pages in Word and up to sixty-two graphics/charts/figures/tables/maps)Deliverables/Outputs:Final PDF and native InDesign filesDelivery deadline: 27 September 2024Deliverable 2:Conceptualization and graphic design and layout of a data pamphlet/brochure on violence in childhood (up to 10 pages and up to 10 graphics/charts/figures/tables/maps)Deliverables/Outputs:Final PDF and native InDesign files.Delivery deadline: 11 October 2024Deliverable 3:Conceptualization and graphic design and layout of a data publication on early childhood development in Eastern and Southern Africa (98 pages in Word and up to forty-five graphics/charts/figures/tables/maps)Deliverables/Outputs:Final PDF and native InDesign filesDelivery deadline: 25 November 2024QualificationsEducation

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in graphic design, communications, or related social sciences.
  • The individual should be highly proficient in a range of PC/web applications, including but not limited to: MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook.

Work experience

  • Minimum 15 years of work experience as a designer, specializing in publication layout/design and data visualization.
  • Proven experience in designing infographics, data figures/charts, publications, PowerPoint presentations, country profiles, maps, web content and other data-driven products.
  • Ability to work in Adobe Creative Suite products (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) and Microsoft Office products (PowerPoint, Word, Excel).

Competencies

  • Fluency in English. Intermediate skills in a second UN language would be an advantage.
  • Excellent written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multicultural environment and establish harmonious and effective relationships with partners.
  • Strong time management skills and an ability to adhere to deadlines.

  • the costs per each deliverable and the total all-inclusive (lump-sum) fees for the whole assignment (in US$) to undertake the terms of reference.

  • Indicate your availability.
  • Any emergent / unforeseen duty travel and related expenses will be covered by UNICEF.
  • At the time the contract is awarded, the selected candidate must have in place current health insurance coverage.
  • Payment of professional fees will be based on submission of agreed satisfactory deliverables. UNICEF reserves the right to withhold payment in case the deliverables submitted are not up to the required standard or in case of delays in submitting the deliverables on the part of the consultant.
